Location and routes extremely inaccurate
GT 77 on 2022-12-09
Just honestly use Apple or Google maps for busses since they are free and have no premium option. I tried using this app for 6 months but it’s mediocre at best and still contains a premium option. If you do pay it adds very little value to the experience except if there is a specific route you like to take in which case it is locked behind a paywall in an app that works ten times worse then apple or google maps. Positives: The support team is very kind, patient and reply quickly. They are definitely very helpful for the average user. The interface/gui is very modern and streamlined. It is very well designed and has many very nice features like scheduled routes. It has a lot of issues with busses but the app is very accurate when it comes to the departure time of trains. The app is almost idiot proof so it is good for children and through the use of the location of other users it is able to predict arrival times of busses/trains better. However, Apple and Google maps are also extremely easy to use and the Calgary transit system is usually on time but it is still very nice to have extra features. Negatives: The app support team that contacted me after i posted a poor review where very unhelpful and suggested there was some personal error on my end even after I told them I have tried everything to diagnose the issue, enabled all permissions, and that my GPS works great on all other apps like Google or Apple Maps. The support team is very kind and patient and we’re able to help me understand the app better but they were not able to help me with my main issue. Multiple times now the address i have selected has been off by 1-2 kilometres and as a result the app chooses very inefficient routes or ones that don’t even go to the correct location. The routes that it selects are awful. For example a route from the app I have tried, uses a bus that goes to a completely different location instead of a bus that stops right at the address. On top of that, after the app makes me take a bus to a completely different location it will often suggest taking a fifteen to twenty minute walk instead of transferring to another bus that would take me straight to the location which is very unreasonable especially in winter. Another annoying thing is the GPS is very inaccurate and often says I am 100 meters away from where i actually am so while riding a bus it will appear as tho I am phasing through buildings.
Would give 0 stars if I could

i wish everybody could give this app 1 star so it could get removed and we can have rocketman back. The app is horrible, I’m surprised it is still rated 4.5 with all the negative reviews recently. Please rad reviews first as this is the worst app for ttc. For starters the app is so hard to use, you are not able to simply look for a line and check the schedule, you HAVE to be around it otherwise you have to pay extra for the service. They will always reply to negative comments about how the app is useless by saying “you can still plan trip a to b” and blah blah blah but they don’t get the point that I don’t want to use it as a map, I have google maps for that reason, I need to see the schedules for the buses. Secondly the schedules are incorrect 90% of the time, busses don’t show up, incorrect hours show, and yet they will always come up with an excuse like “we get our information from the ttc” okay so what is the use of this app then, if you can’t even do the one thing it is for which is to be able to see the buses. The fact that you need to pay extra for a service that is mediocre at best when free seems like q money grab. I get they need money for devs and what not but the service itself is already so bad, they gibe you no incentive to support it. do yourself a favour and use apple maps or google maps, they will be more reliable and you wont gave to pay extra for a basic service.
You don’t get all the busses around you!
Romkasmirnoff on 2022-12-09
You need to pay for further away busses? It’s the same bus stop!!! It’s not further away. It’s in the same physical location! So I’m not getting a random half of the busses available???? I have to pay for what exactly? What’s further away that I need, if you can’t even show me what’s at the same exact spot! It’s supposed to be free if it isn’t further away right? Right??? Edit: That's why the wording sounds like scam, you can get a subscription but for actual valuable things, not because you decided to randomly remove half the busses from my options at the same bus stops! - Ok, it simply shows top 3 closest doesn’t it? I understand that it’s a quick solution, but I can’t move the dot around enough to get the bus I need, so frustrating! If I’m at a stop such as a bus hub, I get off a bus, I then will see top three closest to the one I got off of, all of which including the one I got off are now relevant - need one 5 platforms down. Proximity would be so much more intuitive - you don’t get lines that are further away as you stated. I can move there manually, be annoyed enough and pay! Also, Google maps does it well for free. Usability of this app isn’t well tested, and I’m not sure the business model is helping with the greedy subscription practices.
Used to rely on this daily but now super disappointed about needing to pay to plan my trips
taeyacarmen on 2022-12-09
I almost never update my apps and today I was just reminded of why. I updated for the first time in months and suddenly there are subscriptions to use the app how I used to use it?? I wish I didn’t update. I really don’t care for most of the new features (custom themes, nicknames, and location icons are pretty pointless 🙄) and I’m severely disappointed we won’t be able to plan out trips for more than a few hours ahead of time without paying. I have severe anxiety and plan out my trips at the LATEST the day before if not a few days before. Especially when I don’t know where I’m going. I check the trip multiple times to make sure I’ve got it right. Now I’m being warned that soon I won’t be able to look at anything further than a few hours ahead and that I won’t be able to see lines further from where I am, without paying for it. I’m in the middle of nowhere and need to see all connections in my trip. I used this app daily and I haven’t had any other that was this easy to use, so this is an incredibly annoying and frustrating change.
Poor tracking - inaccurate and unreliable
simply_be on 2022-12-09
It is so unfortunate that I have to use this app as a replacement to rocket man and what is even more aggravating is that I now have to use in the app during the colder months!!! This app cannot do the one thing it is designed to do - track and provide accurate bus or streetcar timing. It’s been a nightmare having to rely on this app - the bus and streetcar timing is always off and I mean always-that I end up either missing the streetcar or having to wait much longer for the next one because the timing is so off! If rocket man app was able to accurately track buses and streetcars down to the seconds - it goes to show that the data is out there, the platform and capabilities is out there! so why can’t transit app get it right - a subpar app and expect me to pay 5$ for added features?! You will not get customers with poor quality tracking! Also no one needs an a avatar and all the extra frills - just clean lines, precise tracking and accurate information.
Will not show me bud times at all
cowellcadence on 2022-12-09
I’ve been using this app for 3 years, learned the whole city with this app when I moved here, last night the app decided to stop showing me any routes, o idea what time they will be there and I don’t have the time in my day to blindly stand by a bus stop, I have work and school to tend to. Now I have to cab everywhere since last night and it’s already hurting my pocket as it’s about $20 per ride. Please fix this issue I have screen shots and screen recordings if you need but I need this app for my daily routes and I can’t afford to taxi or Uber everywhere
Dreadful!
GregClow on 2022-12-09
I had this app recommended to me when Rocketman was disabled and I needed an alternative to track TTC arrivals, but after using it a couple of times I quickly started looking for something else. It’s an absolute mess of an app with an overly busy and non-intuitive interface that makes it almost impossible to find the route/stop you’re interested in, and when you do, it often doesn’t show real time tracking but rather “scheduled” arrivals that are rarely correct. I’m baffled how this has so many 5 star reviews. 🤷‍♂️
I’m embarrassed for you
Willow62 on 2022-12-09
Nothing else required. I’ve already deleted the app. Have a great day. I’m going through your app. I can’t get anything other than the three stop times on my Ave. If I want more, I have to pay for the ‘ultra’ version. It only gives one direction not two. I think that if you want to be funded go to the transit companies, not people who have to survive and get around the city. I’m not sure who pays for your Royale service, but obviously more money than myself or others needing to get around the city. 😖
Not useful
roodax on 2022-12-09
Other reviewers have said it better but this app is not useful. I’ve used Transit in the past but my go to has been Rocketman app. I was forced off Rocketman and directed here. I’m a woman late at night looking to get home and my bus route isn’t showing up. How the <expletive censored!> am I supposed to get home?! This app would be entirely useless of I were unfamiliar with the routes. I’ll tell y’all how to find your way home. Use Google Maps.
Wastes your time
christpherjp on 2022-12-09
I’ve used this app in a couple different cities. I found that it’ll get you around but you need to pay more just to have access to more bus lines? Ridiculous. Also, you’ll have misinformation as to which bus is when as well. The app is designed to make you miss a stop or to get confused going this place. This is not the app for you if you like a straight path to your destination. I’ve wasted a lot of time and time writing this review.
