Better off buying physical
EthanTheFilmFan on 2023-01-29
I am not a streaming person myself, I am a collector and I don’t use streaming. Whenever I wanna watch a movie, I’d either watch it from the start if it’s on TV or if I have it on physical media, I would watch it on there and in the past, there have been multiple times when I’ve been recommended some streaming service and most of the time, I’ve hated on it. I’ve hated on Netflix, Hulu and other popular streaming services. Physical is just the way to go for me. And then I was recommended Disney+. Whilst I do think it is better than Netflix, it still suffers from a lot of problems. First of all, there’s missing episodes from shows. Technically, this is nothing new. I’ve seen streaming services in the past miss episodes from a show which is why I buy physical but they at least fix it eventually. Disney+ has yet to do this. Two examples I’d like to give are The Simpsons and Family Guy (which are both Fox and both my favourite shows which I watch all the time). The Simpsons has the episode Stark Raving Dad missing and I do know it is missing from a lot of streaming services. But the creators are really pushing Disney+, they want it to be their main format and they’re itching to upgrade, but surely if they want us to use Disney+ only, they’d actually include all the episodes. I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again, I’m glad I haven’t sold all my physical media because at least I know I’m getting all the episodes of a show. I get that Michael Jackson was a bad person but it makes no sense that they don’t include this episode yet the Tony Hawk episode and the Dustin Hoffman episode are included even though those celebrities have been accused of bad stuff. There’s even an episode with Julian Assange in it yet for some reason, he gets the pass instead of Michael Jackson. And they don’t even cut out that scene with Julian Assange in the episode, they literally include it. Because oh, someone whose just been accused of something which hasn’t even been confirmed yet is worth not including on the streaming service than a literal known criminal who was literally known for those allegations way before that episode even aired. As for Family Guy, their missing episode slightly made sense than The Simpsons missing episode but it was still stupid they didn’t include it. And that is the episode Partial Terms Of Endearment, you see in the US (and in many countries) the episode is banned, you can only get it on DVD. But in the UK, it’s not banned, there are repeats of that episode and we treat it like any other episode of the show. But then Disney+ came along and messed it all up. Their logic seems to be that if the country they’re based in doesn’t get the episode, then we can’t either. It reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer Simpson is in the UK and keeps rubbing his patriotism in their face. “Oh, because it’s not available in our country, it’s not available in your country! Ha Ha Ha, America Rules and Britain Drools!” Seriously, this really annoyed me with both shows because Family Guy and The Simpsons are both my favourite shows of all time. I love watching them so to see Disney+ just completely neglect both shows by missing episodes just makes me sick to my stomach. Now you wanna talk about screen recording? So what if I want to share a clip of a movie on Disney+ with a friend, what if I like to screen record stuff a lot? All these problems treat the user like an animal! Oh you’re not allowed to screen record because of course, everyone in the world is using that power to brand copyrighted stuff as their own and find NEW and SPOOKY ways to neglect the copyright system, OOOH! Why does it have to go dark when I’m trying to screen record a clip from the show or film I’m watching? Another reason I pick physical over streaming! Also, why does it never let you present the film or show on the TV? Not everyone has the app on their TV! Not everyone likes to use their phone or their iPad to watch a movie if they don’t have the app on their TV! How come an app which is ideally supposed to upgrade me to streaming is just showing me why I like to pick physical instead of streaming?
You’re better off buying physical
EthanTheFilmFan on 2023-01-29
Disney+ is better than Netflix but it still has tons of problems. First of all, let’s talk about binge-watching a show. One example I’ll give is The Simpsons. You’re planning on watching a big marathon of the show and what is this? There’s missing episodes! Granted it’s only one episode but that’s insulting! They took away the Michael Jackson episode just because it’s apparently problematic just because the guest star is someone who may or may not be an offender. And then you take that into account and realise that those allegations are still left to be revealed as true yet an episode with Tony Hawk in it, whose allegations actually have been revealed, is not missing! Not to mention the Tony Hawk episode isn’t even half as good as the Michael Jackson episode but that’s not the point! Oh and don’t get me started on that future episode from season 28, it literally references Michael Jackson but oh, that one gets an exception, just because it’s making fun of that episode it doesn’t deserve to be taken away or even have that scene taken away from the episode because oh of course, the Michael Jackson episode is “glorifying” what he did! The horror! The horror! Grow up, Disney! That’s a big win for physical media because at least on physical media I know that I’m getting every episode of The Simpsons and it’s never going to be banned! Also, what is it with you not including the banned episode of Family Guy? Okay, technically the banned episode is worse but it makes no sense as they put “When You Wish Upon A Weinstein” up on the service even though they must know that it’s one of the most controversial episodes of any show, the same with “Extra Large Medium”. Despite Sarah Palin literally petitioning it to be banned, it’s still on Disney+. And I’m okay with both being on the service, as I’m okay with the Tony Hawk episode being on the service, but they could’ve at least included that episode if they were including other episodes. Not to mention with The Simpsons, they have “The City Of New York Vs Homer Simpson”, “Blame It On Lisa” and “The Cartridge Family”, which are all way more controversial, yet they don’t have the Michael Jackson episode. They have an episode which was banned because of the events of 9/11, they have an episode which was banned in a whole country and an episode which was banned because people claimed it glorified gun use yet they don’t have the Michael Jackson episode just because he may or may not of been a terrible person!!! And as I mentioned, it’s a big win for physical media because I can watch every episode of a show without it being taken away from me. Fix your app, Disney+!
The UI is terrible, the content is great
Scribit on 2023-01-29
The UI or user interface is absolutely terrible. It’s a bandwidth hog, skipping sections or rewinding causes freezes and delays you shouldn’t get in this day and age. The content while good, lacks (some) the extras and features of the home release versions. The cuts/edits also could do with some improvement, allowing people to see directors cuts etc. There is no 3D or VR content. When we went on holiday, we were unable to play anything or access anything not already downloaded. This may also apply to content that has ‘expired’ so will need to be tested next holiday abroad. The app frequently crashes when you switch from windowed mode on iPhone/iPad to full screen. The app also needs a function to return you to all episodes of that show, as well as one to see if you’re still watching. Fell asleep with it playing and woke up seasons later. Had to go search for the show to get to the episode listing. Don’t even get me started on how they have butchered the classic Simpson’s episode by forcing you to watch a badly cropped letterbox version that removes a lot of the visual humour. Otherwise it’s a great place to watch all your favourite Disney and Fox content.
Great streaming app just needs one tiny tweak for me
Rustyboots87 on 2023-01-29
I love the Disney streaming app, it’s on par with Netflix for functionality. It definitely beats Prime which has its issues (for one subtitles I’m looking at you). However the only thing I’d really like to see is when you click into video to bring up options to be able to see the time. This may be intentional that you can’t do it but for people like me who have TV with everything that only works with time management and it’s weird having to check another device than the one I’m watching for it. Or having to come out of the app entirely to see it, which makes for choppy viewing. Both prime and Netflix have this feature and it’s one of those things, especially when getting ready for work in a morning, which is very helpful and means I can still do life but get my tv fix.
“Oops something went wrong” all the time
Inga_13 on 2023-01-29
Just read a two year old review about this mistake in the app. I am surprised that Disney developers are so busy that they can’t fix this mistake in the app for two years now(?). Literally you can’t watch Disney on iPhone. I have called 3 times the support, spending hours on the phone for them to keep changing ip address for app to work. Ruined my trip, when I downloaded content and had to reinstall the app because of “ooops…”… Well, this is not the quality one would expect from such a reputable company. Just cancelled my subscription.
TV app very slow
djshdjsh on 2023-01-29
I utilise Netflix, prime, Apple TV on my tv but the Disney+ app is very slow, suffering from repeated buffering. As mentioned, the other three streaming apps on my tv all work perfectly. Disney needs to respond to this as there are numerous forums discussing this buffering problem. Extremely annoying… it’s like Disney+ app is decades behind. I see Disney+ don’t resound to numerous reported slow response/buffering problems. They’re a throwback to ancient technology when you had to use a 16mb modem…
App is fine but Picture-In-Picture experience could be improved
Fjucjs on 2023-01-29
It would be amazing if picture-in-picture could play the next episode while the app is in the background. It’s so annoying having to go back into the app if the episode you’re watching finishes while you’re doing something else. Plenty of other streaming apps have got this feature. That’s annoying enough by itself but then sometimes when you try to go back into the app the player closes and you have to go and find the show again and start playing it
My opinion on Disney plus
Cava poos are the best on 2023-01-29
Disney plus it is great you can watch your favourite Disney shows like descendants and Encanto, they also have new releases every month two months ago it was turning red. But what I don’t like about Disney plus is that you have to have either a membership card or pay a lot of money for it but my mum gets coupons from Tesco and she gets to choose what she uses it for so we have had Disney plus a couple times but apart from that I love it Toodles xxx
Top Notch, but…
KayMeap on 2023-01-29
I love what’s being provided and the selection. It would be great if you could add a “speed” button. I got used to watching shows at 1.5 speed especially when I don’t need to watch a scene of people drinking a cup of coffee and thinking… I get it their deep in thought I don’t need to watch 20 seconds of that’s it excruciating XD. Adding a speed option would make this 5 star!

I am away from home and I am on on lap top and phone. I didn’t take my laptop on a business trip and can’t access Disney at all app up to date logged out and now can’t log in again. Keeps telling me to try again later obviously with no success. Very frustrating no stars until you sort it. Can’t even send with no stars. So one star but I really mean no stars. Grrrrrrrr
