Mostly great
ThatSasha on 2023-02-07
I’ve been learning French for just over a month now and it’s mostly great however the issues I’ve had are not being able to flag for saying I’d like to do more on a particular word or wanted more clarification on a particular word. In the examples where I need to type what I heard I’ve found that due to the voices for characters I sometimes struggle to hear whats being said example chien and chat sounds similar often but when you’re able to slow them down they pronounce them a bit better. It also has a habit of repeating certain examples so it only ever mentions orange, croissant and pizza for food then Cat, dog and horse for animals but with french having gendered nouns having lesson to understand how you identify the gender of things would be helpful especially if you can explain why? Telephone is masculine for example so le telephone but television is feminine so la television, I don’t understand why though. Other than repeating certain elements it’s otherwise really fun and I am now able to often read and understand whats being said so it’s certainly helping.
Update killed the experience!!!
rightyabe on 2023-02-07
I used to love learning on Duolingo but the recent update has really changed my opinion. So much so that I cancelled my subscription. These rapid reviews that were added are really unfair & annoying to those people who aren’t lightning fast with reacting to making a jumbled up bunch of words form a sentence. This leaves the user feel they are underachieving by not being able to complete these 3* activities. On the xp ramp activity if the timer expires the only way you can continue is by using resources & when they have been used then it’s a pay forward approach. Not to mention the xp for reviewing completed units has been halved making it very difficult for the not so active user to climb positions in the leagues. Taking all things into consideration I wouldn’t recommend Duolingo. When are you ever going to say to someone, I really love my snail & my dog? It’s rather childish in that sense.
Disappointed by the companies recent actions.
DaveyPuk on 2023-02-07
I enjoyed using Duolingo, learning 6 languages with a nearly 1200 day streak. I can no longer support or use this company due to their recent actions. It will never be acceptable in my view to publicly ridicule the disabled and injured. It is your job to provide a platform for users to learn languages and run a successful business with revenue from advertising and subscription fees. It is not your job to gaslight and publicly ridicule the disabled, on twitter or elsewhere. Regarding Angelia Desselle or anybody for that matter. I have made the move to Rosetta Stone with a subscription, and will never use Duolingo again, unless the company issues a public and widely shareable apology, and I really doubt that would ever happen. To me, the actions of this company appear cruel and show lack of empathy towards less fortunate human beings, but that’s my opinion. Adiós Duo.
Terrible app! Not worth the money!
A_Veridion on 2023-02-07
This is by far the worst app I have ever used. If I could give it less than one star, I would. The developers seem entirely focused on style over substance. The language aspect of it isn’t bad, but the functionality is atrocious to the point where it’s almost unusable. They bleat on about quashing bugs in updates, but more often than not they just introduce new ones. Crashes consistently after just two lessons in the “practise” add on of the premium version. The customer service is non existent. Don’t ever expect to hear back from any feedback or complaints, let alone see any attempt to correct issues you’ve noted them of. It’s such a shame, as it was once a good app, but the corporate greed has well and truly surpassed its once good intentions. My advice would be, at most only use the free version, and ideally use a different service altogether!
Good but could do better
Roblox and what you can do on 2023-02-07
So I just started, but I love this game. The only problem is you have hearts so if you get an answer wrong you lose one (you have five hearts)then you have to pay diamonds so you cant actually play any more.Fun game though and would recommend it but it does move fast and you do learn a lot.I know words and phrases of the language I’m learning but it doesn’t go for my skill. You can do a test but they are sentences and I can’t do them yet so if you are very very new to French Spanish or something else I don’t think I would recommend it.I’m still young but If your a college student or someone learning a language for school I still wouldn’t recommend it because you can’t choose what you learn it chooses for you but overall I do love the game and will continue learning and playing this game.
0 customer service

For a learning app that bases itself around competition, points and leagues, there should be apologies for when the app fails to record the XP and kicks you down a league. I complained using your apps built in feedback, and again through your complaints process on your website and have been totally ignored. No apology, not even an acknowledgement of receipt of my complaint. In a sporting competition with points and leagues, if this was to happen (like yours frequently does) teams would refuse to take part. I will not compete in a league I worked hard to stop being booted down to. Your lack of customer service and response has now cost me a 747 day streak, and will now cost you a customer. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement.
Duo your AI is not working!
Xyz123pqr on 2023-02-07
The review more section is still stuck on one lesson, I read your article about your AI learning and I realised that’s the problem, your AI is NOT working!!! I generate “mistakes” each time I do lessons, and they are always the same stuff I forget, over and over again. All your AI has to do, is make a list of those (which it already has), and make me repeat that over and over again in different forms (speak, listen, review). It’s really that simple. Make it happen and I will stop complaining!!!! Seriously all I review each week is the word dégoûtant…. How many disgusting things are there in the world that that’s all your AI wants me to know.
Frustrating.

Recently paid to use Duolingo and have learnt such a lot.l have a streak of 290 days.I like the leagues it gives you something to aim for, have now reached the top league but what l cannot understand is the 4 other people that were promoted to the top league are not there and the person who is already top has 10000 points how is this possible when each lesson you do has only 5 points but you can get eighty points on occasion as the new league had just started that high score is not possible. So l have now given up and will now go at my own pass. Still think it’s a shame the app has been altered via the last update.
“Can’t connect to Duolingo” error
MrMeldrew on 2023-02-07
I thought I’d give this app another go to try to learn a small amount of Welsh; but after choosing the language, it gives me an “error connecting to Duolingo” message. Tried choosing a different language, but the same thing happens. My iPad is up to date with the latest version of iOS, so it’s not a “me” problem. So, I can’t say whether the app has improved since I last tried it (I’d love to know whether they’ve improved the ‘lives’ system - if you earn lives for correct answers, then it’s useful, otherwise it just halts progress). I guess I’ll never know.
Great and easy
AIRBRJ on 2023-02-07
This is a great language learning app even though there are adds after every session and even if you have no hearts you can still learn by pressing the learn to gain heart button so you learn and you can keep going on your journey to becoming a language genius. I would definitely recommend this app for beginners wanting to learn languages. It has a big verity of languages that you can choose from, I’m learning Spanish and French, it’s made so fun and enjoyable. I’ve learnt so much and not spent a penny so it’s accessible for free and it’s so easy to do.
