I have been using Gmail for several years now, and I must say, it is hands-down one of the best email services available.
Firstly, the user interface is clean and easy to navigate. It's easy to find what you're looking for, whether it's an old email or a specific label. I also appreciate the ability to customize the layout, like adding or removing certain elements or adjusting the color scheme.
The organization features of Gmail are fantastic. The labels and folders make it easy to keep track of different types of emails, and the search function is incredibly powerful. I can easily find any email I need within seconds. The spam filter is also one of the best I've seen, it's very effective in blocking unwanted messages while still allowing the important ones through.
The integration with other Google products is also very convenient. For example, I can easily access my Google calendar and contacts within Gmail. This saves me time and makes it easy to schedule meetings or send an email to a contact I've recently met. The ability to use Add-ons like Boomerang, Grammarly and more makes it even more powerful and efficient.
Another feature I particularly like is the ability to use it offline, which is very handy when I don't have an internet connection.
In short, I highly recommend Gmail to anyone looking for a reliable and efficient email service. With all its features and powerful integration, it's the perfect choice for both personal and professional use. It's a 5 stars for sure.
The app seems to refresh itself too often now, so when you switch to another app and then come back to it, it usually drops you out of the email you were editing and returns you to the default mail list. Quite irritating and has definitely got worse. I understand it's probably to do with the frequency with which it chooses to sync to the server and the way that's handled. They've got the balance wrong now.
Gmail's font handling is also pants, as it has been forever. Your email looks fine to you in drafting, then you get a reply with your email quoted below, and you see that the fonts were all over the place as it appeared to the recipient. The careful solution is, before sending, select all and choose normal font size. But who has time? It shouldn't be necessary. This happens equally in the web interface, so it's a generic gmail flaw, not app-specific.
Since a few months it shows an unread email on the badge. I check every box for unread mails and sure enough, once and a while it pop ups unread emails it finds from ages ago, I marked them read and the badge shows all good.
Next day or few days later, same thing. Have to do it all over, exactly the same thing but now, few or at least one other mail shows up, clear it… good again… till a few days later.
This goes on till I found recently I now have to delete all spam and bin emails (which do have unreadable in them) to clear the badge.
Guess what, the day after, same thing 😡. By now, I laterally can’t find unread email anymore, nor does it show any unread emails so I just turned badge notification off. Really annoying you can’t trust something as simple as that.
I have nothing but issues lately. Like someone else says, I can’t attach files from my one drive because my Apple phone won’t find my one drive, wants its own stupid drive, maybe I’m naive but didn’t have trouble before. Don’t want to go the long way around. For the past two weeks I can’t open my email links in my browser, it stays in the email window which is useless because you can’t look at other emails. This is all in the app. I think I need to loom for other email but it seems most have failings of some sort. I can never find old emails when using a search word which is correct, absolutely ridiculous. Even if I delete emails, I still expect to find them.
On the home screen gmail icon I tend to have a small number in red to indicate how many unread emails I have. The problem is that this number is never correct. Right now, I have no unread emails but the icons has a small number 3 in a red circle to suggest I do have unread emails.
Also, in any mailbox, I should really have an option to just see unread emails but this option seems to be completely missing.
Please fix these two issues.
No matter how much I try I am constantly blocking and reporting phishing and blocking spam websites i am not interested in and e mails claiming I have won something or something else that is dodgy and they keep continuing I am getting very frustrated with g mail as this continues to happen I try to unsubscribe something that I am not subscribed too what can be done about it ??
App is fine for the most part, but as of about a week ago the ability to long-press links (mainly to have the option to open them in safari) has disappeared. I hate the chrome app on IOS so I now have to open links in chrome via the gmail app, and then copy the links out into safari. Please add long-press links back!
It’s functional as an email reader and for writing quick text responses but it won’t let you attach files on iPad, unless they are images in your photo roll. I frequently send PDFs and I’m forced to send these in a different app because it is not available in Gmail. Can’t believe Google still haven’t fixed this.
Over the app is very good and easy to use.
However I constantly have a problem with filters not work that seems to have no solution apart from the manually sort emails into filters again. Why it regularly decides all promos need to go into my primary inbox rather than promotions filter I don’t know.
There needs to be an option to MOVE sent emails to different folders. Not just in the app for iOS, but for gmail on the web also. Labelling them isn’t good enough. You end up with a ton of sent emails in the sent folder. I have to use either Mail and/or Outlook for iOS, to move sent emails.
