Bloated App.
ukc_CP on 2020-07-13
V20.11.0 No improvements for so long. Interface freeze whilst it calculates and adds your food is ever more frequent. Clearly beyond developers ability to fix and now I use it out of habit. It serves no purpose now and just waiting for my muscle memory to forget the app in time. V19.9.10 Still buggy. Search for consecutive foods causes the “Add” button to disappear, slow activation of camera, App freezing when WiFi or carrier signals are hard to catch, frequent GUI errors.... the list goes on. Becoming more and more like iTunes. Come on guys. Even Apple ditched iTunes, get on with it and fix this Behemoth and make it streamline and good again! V19.9.0 Updated to iOS 13.0 on iPhone 11 and no better than before: slow, crashing during food search, freezing during portion updates....etc No difference under WiFi or 4G. Just a bloated iTunes like app that desperately needs a complete overhaul. V19.8.10 When it works well it’s a shadow of what it used to be. It mostly crashes and freezes when adding food, or editing food entries. I thought it was just the connection speed (which has a part to play) but it manages to do this even when it is not suffering from slow connection speeds on an iPhone X. It’s just an App with terrible user experience now. I’m deleting my previous positive comments as this is now an I useable, unstable, unreliable App that I hate using and will stop as soon as I finish testing some alternatives.
Losing weight
Janmcc1951 on 2020-07-13
Very pleased with this App. I have linked it to the App. Map My Walk and when I finish my walk the results, i.e. calories used, automatically comes off my daily intake of calories eaten. I am disabled and have limited walking, so walking with my rollator/walker is my walk for the day and everything this App with Map My Walk App. does helps me lose weight. I don’t have premium, but I find the standard App. enough for me. I love the recipe addition as all my meals are home made and I can copy them into the dinner section when ever I have the recipe that is saved. Even portions of everything I have recorded is in the history section, so no need to keep looking up the food and wondering what the weight, say potatoes, was the last time I ate them. Thank you for producing this App.
Disappointing app
sobad33 on 2020-07-13
I used to like this app as you can scan bar codes and create recipes and meals however the more I get into it the more limitations i find. For example, it doesn’t read most of the bar codes from non known brands or genetics. Also, trying to get steps tracked from my apple health into my fitness pal, the app shows the real reading into the home screen but when you go to the diary for the day the steps are out of sync and never display calories burned. At the end of the day I did 13,000 steps and burned 0 calories? Don’t think so... I have tried closing the app, restarting, turning permissions off/on you name it. I’m budding up with a friend and she has the same issues. Not impressed.
Consistent technical issues
Riggers1968 on 2020-07-13
There are frequent technical issues with the MFP app. The last set of issues ties back to “scheduled maintenance activity”, and it took the MFP team almost 3 weeks to completely fix them! I use a FitBit, and there were consistent sync issues which impacted step count, calorie count etc.. As technical issues are frequently impacting the app, have MFP management considered firing the IT manager & team who are responsible for maintaining app stability, and getting someone competent in to handle the IT support? The fact that there are so many ongoing suggests, suggests that MFP are not focused on the end users, or simply don’t care.
Becoming unusable
mysandalshurtmyfeet on 2020-07-13
For the past few months this app has become almost impossible to use. It struggles to even load up most of the time and I have to close it and reopen it several times or just wait until later for it to stop “updating” and just let me use the app. This happens every time I open it without fail. Now the app has started to bug out when I try to search for food and won’t show me any search results. The only reason I’ve continued to use it for so long is because I have 5 years’ data on there I want to compare against. Think I might just bite the bullet and switch to a different app.
Hoping for more success.

I’ve had this app years and although I’ve piled all my weight back on, the only time I had real success was using this app and changing my mind set. So I’m hoping to get back in it and feel better about myself. The reason I’m writing this review though, is due to a video they’ve posted. I’ve Been suffering with anxiety lately and already adapted my diet with some reasonable success, so I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled across a video on the app offering the same advice my doctor did for free! It really is a great app if used properly and to suit your needs.
Better support needed for Fitbit step import
MizzAlex on 2020-07-13
I’ve used this app a couple of years ago and loved it. Recently I downloaded it again and I’m having such issues with the app importing my Fitbit steps. There are days where it works ok and others where it doesn’t import my steps at all. I’ve done the tricks with adding calories burned manually, deleting the device and apps to re-add them and I’m still having issues. It’s very frustrating because the accuracy of what happens on a daily issue is inaccurate. You would think after 2 years the app would get better when it’s actually gotten worse.
Surprisng failures but great overall
iosAli on 2020-07-13
MFP is undoubtably a great tool for calorie control, but there are many great tools in this category. What MFP really boasts is a wide catalogue of good enough (in terms of accuracy) foods and barcodes. Unfortunately editing the mostly inaccurate entries is a chore and heaven forbid you forget to tick save because then you’ll have to do it all again! It’s remarkably difficult to edit or add in nutritional info. The biggest errors are in sodium (which is not salt but salt/2.5) and fibre which is often omitted. Annoying.
“We can’t find what you are looking for”
Sophialar on 2020-07-13
This app used to be so good. It’s helped me so much in the past. Started to use it again today and it isn’t able to search for food items anyone, things that I know exist like cherry tomatoes and crispy fried onion... I can only use the barcode finder add the new items. Even if I have added the food in the past I can’t search for the item! I have to scroll through the list. So I thought I’d best update the app (just in case I’m behind the times)... and that has made zilch difference. PLEASE FIX IT
Used to be the best
gemmas156 on 2020-07-13
Used the app since 2013 and now it’s getting really tedious to use. Can’t open the app at all without it saying ‘updating’ on the blue under armour page, I have to force close and open it about five times to get to the main dashboard. Then recently it’s stopped scanning most bar codes? Also there never used to be so many adverts and sales tactics. And why can’t we just opt in or out of advert preferences like once a month rather than every time we open the app?!
