My sister and I both have the Waze app on our respective iPhones. We set off from the UK in late December 2019 and had no problems with Waze going through the Channel Tunnel, France and Spain. Day 3 of our road trip and Waze packed in for both of us; in the end we gave up and just used the Kia’s SatNav system. Periodically I tried the App whilst in Portugal and later again in Spain, but in the end deleted the app in the hope this would eradicate the problem: it hasn’t. Back in the UK now and it’s still the same network error message. At least my sister has been able to use the app so long as she uses Wi-fi to set the route; if she doesn’t, she gets the “uh-oh” message. We’ve had 3G and 4G through France, Spain and Portugal so we have reached the conclusion Waze isn’t as good as it once was.
We also had one trip in Portugal when we set off for lunch at a venue we’ve been to before; the app kept us amused for an hour as it tried to send us to the beach instead of up the mountain area we were heading. I hope the Developers take a look at this problem and can get a fix released soon otherwise you’ll loose a couple of Waze fans.
First I should say I like this app. Generally speaking if the so tells you you will arrive at a particular time it’s accurate, and it successfully routes you around jams and holdups to keep you on track.
However sometimes it’s a little too keen to switch an alternative route - which can also be torturous at times. Two recent examples. Travelling to ascot recently the route changed and took me down a couple of side roads and brought me out at a t junction where I was required to turn right across heavy traffic, all the saved time was
lost (and much more) as I waited for a safe gap in the traffic.
Second one was travelling across London to Brixton it kept taking me in and out of side residential roads with cars parked both sides where I got slowed several times to allow cars coming the other way to pass - only to get to the end of the road to see a car that had been behind me sail past the end of the road from which I was emerging!
So generally good, but needs a common sense button!
Absolutely brilliant app, the best for navigation on long journeys, would be 5*... EXCEPT the app seems to have zero knowledge of closed roads. I’ve had this happen NINE times over the past year,
-one was the A1 closed for scheduled roadworks
-M18-m1 slip road closed several times
-one was for a Scheduled military event
-one was for another m1 slip road
-one was for a major road near the m1
-a couple other fairly major roads
On every occasion I’ve needed google/Apple maps to rescue me. Reporting closed roads is also a nightmare, I’ve never been able to work out how to actually do it, and you can’t seem to go back to the closed road and report it later once you’ve found a new route.
The purpose of the app is to speed up journeys and I’d say over the past year the app has made me waste more time driving up to a closed road than its saved me in traffic.
I swore by Waze for a long time, but lately I’ve found it much less useful. I’ve frequently found myself in situations where it tells me to go one way to save 5 minutes, then suddenly adds 10 minutes to that ETA once I’m already stuck on that route. Just last night I got stuck for 40 minutes on one stretch of road when Waze originally told me my total journey was going to be 23 minutes. Very frustrating and defeats the purpose of the app. Also poor at keeping road closures up to date, and doesn’t allow users to add roadworks and temporary traffic lights, which would make things much easier.
I have been using Waze since it was launched and remember driving around munching new roads and picking up bonuses. The positives are that predictions are usually accurate and more useful than Google Maps and speed limit and other road warnings are useful. The negatives are that the real-time navigation prediction is becoming increasingly inaccurate. The app now regularly overestimates the amount of traffic on routes by 20-30 mins on a 90 minute commute. I’ve given up and use Google Maps routinely now.
Waze is great, I love it. But it must have been updated, and the current version (Jan 2020) is garbage with CarPlay. Constantly just shows a white screen so you can’t see any roads, making it useless.
CarPlay is general is garbage in ios13. You can’t force quit apps that crash all the time, but a good way is to press the waze shortcut that pops up at the bottom if you’re in a different app, which crashes the whole system, and usually forces CarPlay to reboot. Welcome to 2020
It’s great, has live updates and you can log accidents, traffic... even pot holes in the road which show up for other users and likewise. Find this really useful, can even save destinations and link upto calendar so it can tell you what time to leave according to the traffic to get there ontime. I would never use another sat nav now I’ve got my head around this! I’m amazed this is still free! Although I’m not complaining that it is. Great little app! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me!
I have used Waze for a few weeks to give it a go. Whilst the interface is good, the one thing that lets this app down is the traffic. Waze tells me there is no traffic, but I am stuck in it for 10 minutes at a time. It then doesn’t even show up. It’s a main road so it isn’t like anyone is not reporting the traffic. It also doesn’t recalculate to a faster route. I’ve since switched to TomTom Go for my phone and that is so much better.
Great app for navigation and speed monitoring. It can be a little difficult to see the roads in night mode but no major complaints.
The only thing I'd like to see that’s missing from all the navigation apps I use is that they assume you’re driving a car. Come on Waze, be the first to be able to change the vehicle type as the speed limits are different for non-car derived vans and other vehicles.
This used to be the best app available. With the latest updates (last few months) it takes around 5-10 tries (and restarting the app) to get it to actually load your route. If you can deal with “Uh-oh!” Constantly, then Waze is great.
Happens on both an iPhone 11 Pro and XR.
Honestly, it’s not worth the hassle when other apps work perfectly, first time.
