She can be ornery right?
I do enjoy my Echo. There are limitations to what it can do. I love that I can watch shows while I am in the kitchen. Sound and picture are good. My fave part? Yelling for “her” to wake me up at a certain time and “she” never fails. 4 stars because “Alexa” will no longer call me to find my phone (which I lose 30 times a day!) and the usual issues that arise when electronics and people try to communicate with each other. I am sure there is a lot more the Echo can do that I don’t even know yet. I would say, try it out yourself. Beware though. Children love to tell Alexa to do things like stop, change or otherwise interfere with your favorite song, show, etc . My 12 year old learned his to make her call me “i am mean!” “I can’t do that right now” I Am Mean” Ot took me weeks to change it! That was fun…. Nope
Search results are garbage. It randomly goes off with weather in other countries, randomly speaks when no one is speaking. It shows me stories I have absolutely no interest in. When it shows me a story I would enjoy and I ask to hear about it, alexa says she “doesn’t know that”. So I ask, show me the story you just displayed, and she says, “don’t know what you’re talking about.” If this is supposed to be a “smart” device, it’s not. In fact Alexa is incredibly stupid. Alexa also is unable to show me any of the 3rd party cameras that are properly registered and connected on the app. So why do I even have this thing? Alexa does not seem to be updated either in the 3 years we have been using it. Horrible experience with all our Alexa devices.
To start I’ll say, i learn something new technology wise every single day, I have an Amazon Alexia Echo with quite a few lights bulbs linked with it and have two reviews.
1Saying the word, Alexia, before every single demand or question is annoying and so slow. To turn on just a certain half my house lights, any which few, takes every sentence having to start with “Alexia”. 2, I hope or recommend newer talking devices already or will be upgraded to react to a conversation or multiple questions. Especially when I or someone else ask multiple things in one sentence or phrase to Alexia. In my age terms, She overloads and does not accomplish any of the asked resquest.

Why is it new items get introduced with no information about them?
For example “wake word”. There’s no readily available explanation describing what a wake word is.
Then there’s a run around trying to get information from the Alexa that app, from Amazon and Google.
Perhaps your design staff ought to engage in conversation with non-Amazon people. It would be nice for them to hear that many ordinary people don’t have a clue as to what they are thinking when they come up with meaningless assistance.
At one time I could call everyone on my phone. Because my mom whose blind uses Alexa to make calls she depended on Alexa’s phone to contacts capabilities. Then they changed it to only call 10 people. So she kept wanting me to change things so she could call certain people. Then one day I reached a limit of changes with no warning. I took people out of the call list but to no avail. I couldn’t add anymore to even refill the 10 people. Now she’s stuck out of contact with the people she loves.
I had forgotten to reset my WiFi after changing out my modem and router. I came to this app and it was extremely helpful with instructions that lead me through the steps of reconnecting my setup. It couldn’t have been easier to do.
I’m no expert by a long shot. Usually I find that dealing with a app is geared to people that are very proficient with setups and it makes things difficult. This is geared to help anyone.
This app, when installed, causes audio dropouts, and Bluetooth problems on my phone. Uninstalling it solves these issues. When using this app, the interface keeps changing, which makes wayfinding within the app difficult. It is slow to load. It is bloated. Features and functions are hidden in arcane places. I had to uninstall it so I could use my phone properly. The Alexa devices are quite good. This app is awful.
I love it because I don’t have to yell across the house when I am callings for someone. I drop in or do a announcements. Just the other day my mother was not to reach me by phone and she was able to reach me through Alexa and we Live in deferent household. I set up reminder of task I need to do and medication that I need to take. I don’t forget and alway stay in communication with my love ones.
My Grandmother fell & couldn’t get up. Her cell phone was not within her reach. She asked Alexa to call my Uncle & gas able to ask him to come help her. I’m very thankful for the echo dot. Now we have purchased 3 echo dots for my parents & paired them to their phones. They know that they can ask Alexa to call us if they ever need help. It give me peace of mind that I am very grateful for.
I love finding myself at the grocery store with my shopping list on my phone. There’s never forgotten item when I get home. When I’m cooking and I’m out of something, I just tell Alexa to add it to my shopping list. There’s never having to look for a pen or pencil and pad of paper. I never lose my list and I can update it whenever I want and wherever I am. Thank you Alexa.
