Studying the Bible shouldn’t be hard. Bible by Olive Tree equips you with easy-to-use Bible study tools and resources so you can stop skimming Scripture and get answers—for free. Here are 4 ways you’ll be set-up for studying God’s Word: 1) NO WIFI That’s right, you don’t need a WiFi connection to access your Bible, audio Bible, or any other Bible study tools. You could be in the middle of the Amazon or on top of Mt. Everest. If your phone is working, so is your offline Bible app. 2) MORE THAN JUST A BIBLE God has been speaking to His people, through His people, for thousands of years… and that takes some research to understand! This is why we provide 1000s of resources to help you go deeper into God’s Word—because studying the Holy Bible shouldn’t be hard. And when we say “resources,” we mean: -AUDIO BIBLES -DAILY READING PLANS -DEVOTIONALS -BIBLE MAPS -STUDY BIBLES -COMMENTARIES -EBOOKS -CHRISTIAN AUDIO BOOKS -GREEK & HEBREW TOOLS -AND SO MUCH MORE 3) TECH + DESIGN Not only do we implement unique features into our app, but we do it with style. Our favorite is the split-screen window: The Study Center. You can use the Resource Guide tab to access any of the resources available in our app and read them right alongside the Bible of your choice. It even does all the hard work of tracking with you, verse by verse. Studying the Bible just became the easiest it has ever been. 4) CUSTOMIZE YOUR BIBLE Want more highlighter options? That’s fine! Pick your own color, thickness, and change it to underline instead. Have trouble reading small print? Increase the font size! Reading at night? Change the theme to be easier on your eyes. Want to listen safely while you drive? Turn on drive mode! You can save your favorite passages, drop a book ribbon, create a note, add tags, and sign up to receive a daily Bible verse. Best part? Your highlights, notes, and resources sync between all your devices. BIBLE TRANSLATIONS If you’re wondering about our different English translations, this app comes with NIV, ESV, KJV, NKJV and more. Speak a different language? No problem! We have Bibles in Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, French, and others. We also have other popular translations available for in-app purchase! Here are a few: -The Message (MSG) -New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) -New Living Translation (NLT) -The Passion Translation -Christian Standard Bible (CSB) -New American Standard Bible (NASB) FREE STUFF Our passion is inspiring you to connect with God and His Word through technology. Wonderful Resource, Still Buggy for iPad Air 2
Gene the writer on 2020-02-17
1/26/20 - The glitch below is still an issue and now I’ve noticed that the links to other scriptures that I create in a note will no longer take me to the reference. It works ok for my iPhone 8, but not for my iPad which is my main Bible study tool. I’m getting very frustrated with committing to a particular app which then acts really stubborn after a few years. I went through this with the ESV app and they screwed up everything so I lost all my notes. I’m considering just going back to a paper Bible for the rest of my existence. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS! It’s been many months that these problems have persisted. Updated review for Oct/Nov 2019: The latest update did not fix a glitch in scrolling. Sometimes when scrolling back through a chapter the app will start blinking and then jump back about 2 chapters. ——- I’m a longtime user of the free ESV Bible app by Crossway which has suffered many challenges over the years. I recently decided to try Olive Tree again out of curiosity and because I was hoping to switch back to the NASB. When the NASB went on sale this week I picked it up via in-app purchase for only $5. For this review, I am using Olive Tree on an iPad Air 2 with an attached keyboard. Here is why I’m so happy about Olive Tree. It’s an altogether smoother experience than the ESV app. You can switch to night mode quicker than you can with ESV. Instead of being able to only highlight the entire verse, Olive Tree lets you highlight individual words—great for keyword study. Choose from several highlight colors or make your own! You can also place a note on any verse as well as on section headers (if you wanted to make a general chapter or section note) and even change individual note icons. It’s really a beautiful app. The Olive Tree Store has a nice layout and offers a ton of selections. There are a variety of subjects from Spurgeon to Wesley—so you aren’t limited to one branch of theology. Plus there are some good looking free resources. I’m looking forward to using Olive Tree as my main Bible study and reading app!

2/5/20 - Scripture hyperlinks within commentaries and notes used to work by tapping once in iPad Air 2. Now you must press/hold to follow the link. I’ve contacted the developer and they said they’ll have to look into it further. They also said they’re still working on the scrolling glitch what has persisted. My favorite bible app but not perfect
SteveW123!!! on 2020-02-17
The app is great but a couple of things could improve it: 1. Change the highlighter to a solid color instead of the gradient. When you use a dark background, it doesn’t look good. This is especially true with the red text of Jesus. It makes the text hard to read with the dark background bleeding through. 2. Allow me to set a default note icon. The yellow star is easiest for me to see but I have to constantly navigate to it to select it. 3. Have an option to remove all bookmarks OR have a special bookmark that is your current page you are reading. When I set it on another page I would like it removed it from the previous page. 4. It would be really nice to be able to set/increase the line spacing of the text. 5. It would be awesome if your notes weren’t tied to a specific translation. I know it might be hard since each one has different wording, but maybe you could have a special “verse” note that would be for an entire verse, which could be transferable between translations. I would use that one exclusively then. I am using the CSB right now but will probably switch to the new NASB coming out in 2021, when Lockman has a new study Bible 5. I think the intro to each book should be in the main pane with the Bible and be in the book TOC instead of the commentary side bar, but that is minor.

Not only have I enjoyed reading the Bible with this app, I now have a much deeper understanding of the Bible and how people and events are related. It has been a great tool for me. I have gained far more from it than I ever hoped. I love this app. I have used it over the past 4+ years to do an in-depth chronological study of the Bible. I have learned so much. I followed the outline for the chronological reading plan. Only I stretched it out to do a study rather than just to read it. It was so much better than trying to read it cover to cover on my own. I made many many notes, underlined and highlighted passages. I’ve started through it for the second time now. I was raised in church and I have read the Bible for my whole 57 year old life, but this has given me the ability to coincide people and events in a way I never have managed to do. Many tools are available to you. For example commentaries, related books, study notes and different versions of the Bible as well as definitions and related passages. I highly recommend this app.
Superior App!

This app is far ahead of all other Bible apps I have tried. I can have a study bible on the bottom pane, my strongs bible on the top so that any word I am curious about, I can tap it and pull up the original greek or hebrew word with definitions. I can highlight in as many colors as I create and name the colors by topic like "Holy Spirit" or "Assurance." Then I can pull up every verse I have ever come across on the Holy Spirit later in a list. I can write notes on verses and link topical lessons throughout the Bible. Best of all, I can sync all of this with my online account to pull it up on my iPad, iPhone, or PC and never lose it. The only con I can think of is that Bibles and commentaries are more expensive than some apps, but you get what you pay for, and this is worth it. I am teaching my kids how to use it to build family Bible studies. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to study the Bible or start a virtual library of commentaries.

I only switched to this app because the one I was using started to freeze and quit working. So after trying some other apps I landed on this one. At first, the customization was overwhelming but then after watching the tutorial videos and making it look the way I like it, the app is just about perfect for me. Note taking in parallel or over the top of the text is great. Accessing commentaries, dictionaries, and other resources is simple. The gesture shortcuts seemed silly at first, now I use them all the time. This app allows you to swim in the shallow waters of the word and grow in your faith. AND it allows you to dive into the deep end of what the Word of God has to offer. I’m grateful to Olive Tree team for their yeoman work on this app. Your coding team and GUI team have done amazing work. Thank you. I sometimes spend more than two hours in the word. I’ve never done that before!
Overall good app, but has frustrating bugs
EdHans on 2020-02-17
Overall I like this app and for bible reading it is a 5 star app. But I’ve purchased 2 reference books in the last few weeks and within an hour of using each I found issues where the Lookup function fails to work with some words or they don’t open properly in the Study Center portion. I’ve reported these issues with both books and have received confirmation that the bugs are reproducible. But neither has been fixed. I’m not talking about visual glitches or minor issues. These books do not function as advertised. And neither issue has been fixed. I’ll continue to use it for quick bible references and light reading, but I cannot use it for serious study as when I study I want to be immersed in the text, not fighting app bugs. I won’t be buying anymore reference books either until I see a change in quality.
So close, but still not there...

It's been years and still missing some features others have. While this APP has upped its game over the years, there are still some features I would like to see. For example, cross device reading locations. (I.E. Reading in one location would automatically be the location you would be at on another device. Continuity, as Apple would call it.) The ability to hand off items from one device to another. The Resources Guide is nice, but you should be able to turn it off totally, if you know it will not be used. Olivetree will be around for some time. In that, I am thankful. You can come back to them anytime and all your purchases are there and waiting. (This information was after contacting support.)

This is by far the best study guide I have ever used in forever! Very user friendly, and the people behind the scenes are so helpful! Love, love, love it! I have everything I need to complete my studies in one place without closing out of one section and opening up another. I can highlight, make notes, use different books, etc. it is so user friendly, and such a great “digging deeper” app. I’ve tried others but always come back. My library of books have grown. Plus, to help you get started they offer you loads of free books. Thank you Olive Tree. This company is in it for the right reasons! To help us grow in God's Word!
In love with this Bible app

I love everything about this app. I love the translations and the research tools. I love the ability to highlight in many different colors and to take notes that can all be accessed on my many different devices. Oh, what clarity for my OCD brain! Keeping it all together is a bonus!! I also love that the Scripture references send you everywhere you need to go to get more clarity. An all around school of Bible study. Overall, this app is an endless access into the beautiful words of the Bible and I am so grateful for this technology. So grateful. Thank you!
