I just began using the app, so I don’t know if I’ll encounter the glitches or shutdowns others have seen. I like the pay up front model rather than the subscription model that so many “free apps” rely on. But my main issue is the audio prompts. The app is configured to work with Apple Music, but will allow you to run other apps in the background (I prefer Amazon Music). But the trainer prompts to jog/walk are super quiet and really difficult to hear over the music - and the app doesn’t “duck” or mute the background audio to deliver the prompt like other apps like Runkeeper do. Active’s website claims you can adjust volume control for the trainers in settings but it’s not independent of the volume settings on your phone. So to turn the trainer up, you have to turn your music up and you still can’t hear him/her over the playlist. Hopefully this is an update they can make, because it renders the app pretty useless for me otherwise, unless I spend $20 in the iTunes Store to purchase a playlist to use in the app. With this problem fixed, I think I’d consider this a 4-5 star app.

I’m very pleased with this app. I’ve used it several times over the last six years, and each time it’s been a great tool which helped me feel confident about my running. My only two problems come from the music player. I wish it had a shuffle option, so I could easily listen to different songs each time I run. I have found a work around for that, but it would be nice to have in-app. The second is the volume changes. After getting a cue, the volume often cuts lower, so music that was at a motivating level becomes significantly quieter and nothing can easily be done to fix it while you’re running. Again, great app, I’ll keep using it for sure.
This app is more 5K than couch

Assuming you are going from a relatively sedentary lifestyle to running, this app is incredibly intimidating. I’ve tried the program twice and given up twice because it was just too much right from the BEGINNING. I asked my friends “how are you doing this?” They told me I was on a different app so I downloaded the alternative right away. It was challenging, but not impossible and I actually made it 2.09 miles my first day as opposed to the 1.78 miles on this app my first day which I gave up on 21 minutes in. If your more couch than 5K, try a different training app.

I was never a runner. I used this to do my first 5k. I fell off during quarantine but now I’m motivated again and signed up for another 5k and I know I will ok again because of this app. I started from scratch and I just love to recommend this app to anyone who wants to try to run. Someone else mentioned “runners high” and yes, once you pass a milestone of intervals you will get this and it feels like heaven. Hope this helps anyone on the fence and try it. You can do it!
Childish animations and voices

I hate that I have to set the trainer each time, the childish animations and fake cheers. Why can’t there be a minimalist voice that can be set by default. Also, better dashboard showing progress rather than go through each run separately. Also, show progress steps during run rather than not let me know how many sprints and for how long are left.

Running is physical and mental torture, but it’s the lesser of two evils when you’re on furlough during a global pandemic. Do your body right and invest in a pair of running shoes. Get fitted at a real running store. It’s way cheaper than a steroid epidural for sciatica.
Amazing App BUT

I love this app it took me from a total couch potato to an actual runner and I recommend it to literally anyone that wants to start running BUT I desperately wish there was a way to sync the app to my Fitbit so I could get a more accurate idea of how much I actually ran
Need to integrate with Apple Watch!

The program itself is excellent! It really helps get back into running or starting from scratch. However, I don’t want to run with my phone. PLEASE fix Apple Watch interface. You deserve 5 stars!!
Doesn't work with Apple watch

I'm very upset that my runs aren't being recorded through my Apple watch like it says it does. If there is a way to fix this, I would love to know about it. I've tried everything.
