I am a student and have been using DUO since 2013 for undergrad, graduate school, and social media.
Recently, my phone’s motherboard crashed unexpectedly. On my new phone, I’m unable to log into Duo because I need my old phone to confirm my new phone. The emails from their support just linked me to their Instagram FAQ, which says it’s out of their control. Finally, after waiting 4 hours for a phone call, they told me there’s nothing they can do to recover my account. They kept mentioning that I was sent a back up code and it’s my fault for losing that. Excuse me, but it’s been 9 years, so yeah - I lost my code. They didn’t even entertain the thought of trouble shooting or helping me come up with a solution. I’m now forever locked out of everything.

Soon as I installed it, battery was taking a nosedive. This is on a phone with a freshly serviced, new battery. Talk about the glow. Sure enough at about 24 hours after the install, battery longevity went back to normal. Go ahead and get this in if you want a killer battery app. I’m not being a kidder, at all. I even have a lighting multimeter to scan how much power was actually being put into my iPhone in case my charger was not working or the lighting receptor was busted. Nope, just this totally independent and in no way affiliated with intelligent agency app duo mobile.
Don’t even try it, not even once.
Holy crap! After the latest update on my iPad, the update logged me out of the app and will not allow me to log back in. It’s acting like this is the first time I have open the app and it wants me to scan my first code to get started. Even when I found something to access that needed a QR code I went ahead and added it to the account, hoping I will get an option to login, I DID NOT. I do not know what happened, but this is a big problem. This is not a username or password issue. I do not get an option to login, it is not anywhere.
I downloaded the app to set up two factor authentication for my Instagram account. I logged out of my account and all of the codes that were provided from the screenshot I took do not work. I am now locked out of my Instagram account. When I contacted Duo customer service via phone, I was unable to speak with anyone because I am not a paying customer. The customer service email only responded with an article that did not help at all. Had I known that the backup codes were not to work I would have never used the app.
I’ve come to like this app overall. A bit easier to use than getting security codes on the iPhone's own security feature, for now. My school used the app poorly and inconsistently. Push notifications can be too sluggish, and a built in Duo security layer on websites can be cumbersome overall (why this is not five stars). However, the security code works every time without issue. Most websites can have dual factor ID set up that way. Apple’s Passkeys coming soon might prove better, we’ll see.
I have never attempted to use an app before that has caused so much stress all while waisting so much of my time. And guess what, I still don’t have it up and running after a very grueling week of attempting to set it up. If this was the creators goal, then you get 5 stars! If not then you het 1 star and that is only because you require at least one to leave a review. Great job with creating this p.o.s. app!
When you restore the DUO app from iCloud, be careful cause you are given only one chance to do it during initial reset up.
If you press on anything other then the password to recover, you’ll be screwed. There is no way to recover your accounts anymore from within the app, even if you happen to uninstall and reinstall the app.
This design is absolutely the worst a company could ever think of.
My university requires this and at this point, I’d rather have my life savings stolen. Thank you for always screwing up and not working over multiple devices. Why should I only be able to confirm push using only my phone??? It’s not like anyone has kidnapped me and is trying to get into my school account to steal the $10 I have in the bank. This is a huge inconvenience.
I just got a new phone today and was unaware that if you’re switching phones to have to allow your new phone access through the old one. I thought I was being smart when I used to for my Instagram but now I’m fully locked out of Instagram and none of my backup codes work. I’m extremely frustrated and can’t believe how badly this app works.
I tried to login to my byu account and it wouldn’t let me login and I know I typed in my password correctly. People should listen to the one star reviews because this app is crap and it doesn’t have any functions whatsoever it is useless who ever the developers are I hope your company gets shut down. Don’t download this stupid app.
