Another update (6 months after the last):
Something shady is definitely going on. Google iOS team for Gmail stopped bothering to make any more updates. They never respond to any of these reviews. Somehow - despite all these things going downhill and the reviews are getting worse - they still manage to keep over 4.5 of an average of stars out of five.
The last update (of their product) was before this year. Somebody else on here speculated that had to do with a new law and once they update they might have to talk about some things they may not want to talk about...
Because they’ve been so horrible (or great at), complete lack of communication. I’m going to the lowest star as possible. Haven’t bothered updating since summer. Because of all the terrible reviews for the last three updates. Which means my system is probably more at risk for something like security compromising it. But at this point they haven’t updated for two months anyways so “f”’em.
.....
2nd to last review —
When you’ve had three updates that do nothing but break your app...
With every legitimate review being poor after the fact (because it’s pretty transparent when it’s some employee trying to stack up five stars )...
Original review —
When you finally do another update (that I’m not even gonna bother with until I read recent reviews that say it works)...
It might be wise of you to address the people that actually pay attention…
But hey, it’s great that you said that we can auto select Gmail as our main email now. What you said last time also.
But maybe... address that you fixed the crap that’s broken?
For starters, please move the quick actions to the bottom of the screen. More and more of us are using iPhone Pro Max models and it makes reaching all the way up to the top of the screen to delete/mark as unread/ etc more more of a hassle to do compared to if the actions were near the bottom.
Secondly, the “dark mode” seems to have an awkwardly subtle green/blue tint to it. It looks very uncomfortable and not true dark grey/grey.
Thirdly, can the font color of the email lists be slightly whiter? It’s, again, awkward to have to really focus on text because the color different from the dark background to the slightly-less dark body text color isn’t contrasted enough.
Lastly, please give us the option to choose the in-app browser OR forward us to safari directly. I understand the in-app browser is convenient but so is having those links open and stay in your tab history without having to take the extra step to “open in safari”
Hope someone at Google reads this.
It’s funny how all of a sudden when Apple releases the privacy labels and the backlash from facebooks labels google stops updating their apps on iOS. It’s getting to the point you’ll get an error message that it’s out of date. I decided to delete gmail off my mail app that comes on the phone and it was crazy about half my contacts were deleted off my phone. As long as I had texted them I could see the numbers but my work numbers I couldn’t text I lost all of those. What’s even weirder is I never emailed any of these contacts and half of them I couldn’t. They were all entered into my iPhone so not like they were linked to google in anyway. I have decided with the way google is acting to create an iCloud email account and deleting gmail off my phone. There is a reason for them to stop updating there stuff cause they know they will need to do the labels in the App Store. I advise others to do the same.
i got a bad grade because of this app. see, i was doing this EXTREMELY important test and we had to turn it in on time. i have a strict teacher. she gave me a private comment saying that if i didn’t turn it in this instant, i would get a zero. i never got the notification even though i turned on notifications. when i turned it in 2 minutes later, it said i already got a grade, which was zero, even though i worked so hard on it. however i can get notifications from chat messages on gmail. please fix this issue. i got one bad grade from you on a really important test. i don’t want another bad grade. please fix this notification issue.
thanks i would really appreciate it.
I’ve been having this issue for months now where I open the app and try to type into the search bar and the keyboard won’t come up so I restart the app, then I try to tap on the email to select it and put it in the trash or move it and none of the options at the top show up so I have to restart the app again. Sometimes I end up restarting the app 3 times within a minute or two because it just continuously glitches and I’m not able to use it properly. Would love if this got fixed as I need this app for school and work. Otherwise it’s a good app just frustrating when I have to constantly restart especially when I’m on a time crunch.
Have you taken a look at the mile long list of information they gather and share about you !! I mean come on really. This is just email for crying out loud.
Thank you Apple for looking out for your users. Mark “Suckerberg” go pound sand.
I’m just tired of these parasites living off of me. cancelled my paid G suite account and went to Microsoft 365 email hosting and dumped all google apps on my iPhone. ..really Google you can’t do better than this ? I’m not saying Microsoft is an angel but they did stick up for our Australian friends and for this they have my support.
This must surely be the worst app google ever created. If you try to use the feature that allows you to archive emails you’ve checked you will find it available on something like alternate Sundays. Otherwise this feature is hidden by the search bar. If you, like me and everybody else on the planet gets a hundred useless emails a day, it would be nice to be able to batch click them and just unclick the few you don’t want to immediately archive. Google used to have this feature but they dropped it as too efficient. A really pathetic app.
Mobile responsiveness = HTML that uses @media queries, and this app doesn’t support them. The default android and iOS email apps are far superior. It’s extremely disappointing that a company as large as Google can’t seem to understand having support for standard HTML/CSS coded emails. As a developer, I have to spend extra time making sure emails render okay in this terrible app. It’s the “Outlook” of mobile apps. Technology moves forward and apps like this continue holding back email development.
I have no space left because of the amount of emails I need to delete because I get SO MUCH mail all day long for work. I can’t stand having to delete one after another when I have 8k emails to go through already after sitting down for an hour deleting a ton of them not that long ago.
I guess I’m just going to have to delete the app and pin the direct link on my home screen instead. Also a LOT of my important emails keep going into the spam even after I repeatedly make them not spam.
Updated Review: Been having a major issue when using the app on iPadOS. The keyboard will just disappear and no matter what the only way to get it back is to close the app and reopen it. Google can this please be fixed!?!
Love, love, love this app!!! One of my top apps and most used.
Love the integration of quick reply and archive from notifications. Could really use the added option to trash emails from there as well. Please consider adding this Google. Thanks!!
