Everything is good mostly…
C. Alexander on 2022-01-21
I like the simple interface and the ability to get messages in real time. It crashes from time to time, so there is a ding for that. I’d rate it four stars if it weren’t for the link handling. I hate having to deal with “their own” browser that walls me off and then requires extra steps to make it work right. What I mean by this is, if I order something online and get an email to do a pickup, I can’t just click the link. It’ll take me to their “inside browser”. I sometimes forget that, and it becomes a problem when I do. For instance, Best Buy gives you a pickup code that you use to get your curbside order. If I don’t make sure I open the link in the main browser, I can’t do anything else with the phone until it’s picked up or I risk losing the code. Also, I had to reset a password, and I did it through their stupid browser, and I selected the iCloud suggested password. As a result, it didn’t save, and I was back in circles trying to reset it again. They need to make it so you can use an external browser by default and not just Chrome.
Unfriendly app
MarkN54 on 2022-01-21
No matter what I do the sign in screens are always in Chinese. This makes life difficult since I always have to verify my sign ins, and sometimes I have to figure out what the screens are saying. The security procedure requires gmail to verify your signing using gmail on your phone, which doesn’t seem safe to me, and there is no option for normal two factor identification with a text message or something like that. Doing useful sorting of your mail is difficult and some things that I take for granted on other mail clients, like just looking at unread mail, don’t seem to be available. Here is an update. As a result of this review I got an email from Apple suggesting I could use the help center or contact the developer. Neither of these options was useful. The help center doesn’t address my issue and trying to contact the developer only gave a place to put screenshots. You can’t actual type anything or describe your problem in any way. I would be willing to start a new discussion thread, but there is no way to do that either.
No way to disable dark mode
njhchung on 2022-01-21
I can’t believe I have to come all the way here to essentially complain about a lack of functionality. Of all things, Gmail’s developers have failed to add an easy “turn off dark mode” feature in the app. I love dark mode. But not when I’m trying to read emails. The “see in light mode” feature is only available if you open up an individual email and change it temporarily there. HOWEVER, that is not the point of my review. There needs to be an option in which users can easily toggle between dark and light mode. I can’t believe that for developers working for a company as big as Google, they utterly failed at this. Shame.
Left side menu random
E-D-G-R on 2022-01-21
Left side menu randomly appears when opening the app and when switching between categories. Have to close and re-open app to get menu. Sometimes it stays, sometimes not. Still broken Was ok for a bit, but started random appearance of left side menu. Still broken GOOGLE! Nope, latest version still broke! GOOGLE, please fix Ok, here is what I observed. If I haven’t used the app for a while there is no menu (portrait mode). I close the app, re-open and menu appears. Then I use the app, and close it. If I re-open the app after a few minutes, the menu appears. Wait a long time, open the app, no menu.

Mailbox choices disappear often, even after reinstall; sort problematic
Solarbear16 on 2022-01-21
I’ve used this app for quite a while. Recently about a third of the time I open the app on my iPad, the bar on the left side where you can choose to open just one inbox or all of them is not there. That includes the three lines at the top, so there’s no way to change it - I have to close the app, and reopen it. This is a pain. Also I use sort for one email address, and it often puts news articles into the Promotions section rather than Primary - even though some from the same source are going into Primary, as they should. Please fix these issues!
Pro motion issue when scrolling thru the email content
Red sox756 on 2022-01-21
While inside an email scrolling is very choppy ==============Explanation: Within gmail app when i open an email which is long and if i scroll through it it feels like its scrolling at 20-3Ofps even if its an emailwith only plain text inside. Even worse if there are images. =====: ======== Update : As per developer suggestion in other users pays I uninstalled and installed the app but the issue still persists. Still no fix for this and many users have repeated in their reviews with no acknowledgment from Gmail dev team.
Email Signature
neerGeiloJ on 2022-01-21
I love the GMail app and I rarely run into issues when using it except for when I updated my signature. It says on the app that, “Your signature will be added to your message after you send it. It shows up after two dashes (—) and three dots (•••). It’s slightly annoying because when I use my phone to reply to emails (which is 99% of the time), the recipients cannot see my signature so my email looks unprofessional. I don’t run into this issue on my laptop. If this could be fixed, I’d greatly appreciate it.
I like it
c o o l n e s s on 2022-01-21
I have used Gmail my entire life, there is nothing majorly wrong with it. The one thing I dislike, is that sometimes, it shows the notification bubble, but it doesn’t have an unread email. No matter how many times I refresh it, it won’t go away. Eventually it does go away but I am such a neat freak that it annoys me to have unread notifications. Really it’s just a minor inconvenience that some people might not care about, so I see no reason to not download Gmail.
Mass Delete Option???
Darik Belisle on 2022-01-21
How is it 2022 and google has still not allowed us to mass delete emails on our phones? So many people would love this ease of use feature and have been asking for it for YEARS. And your “Developer Response” is always “please send your feedback to our developers” YOU ARE THE DEVELOPERS, DO YOUR GOOD. Good Job Google!!! You add all these small useless feature but not one that would actually help declutter our inbox’s. SMH.
