Great App, but Needs Some Updating
Busy.C on 2022-12-02
I use this app heavily for personal and work emails. I noticed that when I was added to an event (business meeting) on Google calendar, my client’s profile pic was displayed, but mine was not. I think this is an overall gmail thing and not just the app, but I believe it didn’t want to show my profile picture to anyone outside of my paid business gmail network. Anyway, I thought that was frustrating because my profile pic is actually my business logo and I want it to look as professional as possible. I really hope the developers can look into this and create a setting to allow permissions to show my profile pic to outside email accounts. Additionally, the other thing I noticed was that the Gmail mobile signature section is just a plain text field. My business signature is a png and the settings in the Gmail app do not give users the opportunity to upload a png or jpg as a signature. I think it looks incredibly tacky and unprofessional when the signature in mobile is in plain text. It feels really antiquated when it could be so much better —and I’m sure you know that A LOT of your users use the app for business emails. Another alternative suggestion would be to carry the gmail signature settings from web and have it carry over into the gmail app so we don’t have to change anything… it just automatically is inserted to the email body whenever we are responding or composing an email. Hope your team can roll this simple stuff out so we can really enjoy the benefits of the app. I’m already a paid Gmail user, so it’s something I’d like to already be included for the app. Thank you!

I am that America: I think the Gmail is the great next to Bill Gates of Apple! If gmail could control all these scammer n impersonator from Nigeria n West Africa with other counties! Yes that would make the very greater but this scammers n impersonators have created no inside of me!! I only deal with direct contact when it come to money!! Lol!! Yes back to old school, I am so happy I didn’t get involved with crypto currency with these scammer n impersonator also!! There needs to be more research on text messages with pictures n also these cell phones number should to control like Driver License!! But the communication with the gmail is just the greatest for information concerning knowledge and etc!! Walter A Beard of Compton, California!! That my real Home!!
support for non-default Star symbol in Gmail app
MStyleFTW on 2022-12-02
I found the Star feature in Gmail to be incredibly useful ever since I’ve changed the default yellow star (which is hard to see against a white or grey background) to a red square/exclamation sign. I also removed the default yellow star from the list of Star symbols in Gmail settings. So now when I click the Star option in the Gmail website UI, it correctly shows the red exclamation sign. However, when I Star an email from the iOS Gmail app, it still uses the default yellow star instead of the exclamation symbol that I have as my default Star symbol in the Gmail settings. Please change that behavior so the app uses the Star symbols that are selected in the settings, instead of the default yellow star.
Buggy?
Otterable77 on 2022-12-02
I have several gmail accounts set up in this app and whenever I get mail, I get the notification bubble with the number of unread emails. Great! However, after I read all my new emails and mark them as read and go back to the home screen, the notification bubble doesn’t go away until I click through each one of my gmail accounts, even though I don’t have new email! It’s very annoying. If I get 3 new emails, the notification bubble stays at the number 3 even after I check my email, until I click through the inboxes for each of my gmail accounts, or if i get another email, then it will change to the number 1. Seems bugged to me. Makes me want to just use the Apple Mail app instead.
Bugged

The gmail app is great and all since my mail doesn’t get delayed and the fact that there are labels is great but I am someone who uses and has multiple accounts and doesn’t always have a laptop at hand so I use my phone a lot. The problem is the gmail app mixes up all of my emails together on every account. This only appears to happen on my phone and I can’t seem to find a way to fix it. I’ve tried deleting the app itself and redownloading it. I’ve also tried getting rid of the accounts in the app and adding them back but they are still mixed up. In addition to that, adding anymore accounts adds even more emails to the mix.
Filter feature not available in iOS App
Eric 72394 on 2022-12-02
Overall a solid app, but my one major gripe is that (as far as I can tell) the mobile app does not allow you to create or edit filters. Personally, I spend 95% of my time managing email via the mobile app (vs the web/desktop app) so this lack of functionality is very annoying to me — the Updates folder would be way more useful to me if I could filter out emails from senders that I do not want to appear in the folder (but continually do, since I can only move emails one at a time currently). I *really* wish Google would change their strategy on the filter feature for Gmail mobile.
App makes pasted text same color as background after hitting send
InnerAlchemyCenter on 2022-12-02
When I copy and paste text into the gmail app, it makes the text the same color as the background after I hit send, so it becomes invisible to the receiving party. Unfortunately I usually don’t know this happens because the text looks fine before I send the email off. When I’m composing the email, I see the text. The pasted text is washed out after I hit send. Sometimes it is days before I discover that parts of my emails went out as blanks. This is super annoying and renders the app unusable, and at times leads to devastating miscommunications.
Bots 1 - 0 google employees
diggitydoggz18 on 2022-12-02
I can’t even use this app for an email anymore because the spam bots have y’all beat. I’m getting too much junk mail sent to my primary everyday, it’s not getting filtered into spam. I can’t even create a filter for them because it’s a new email everytime AND magically, when I go to create a spam filter for any of them the spam messages can’t even be found in my mail. But THERE THEY ARE at the top of my primary. This app doesn’t allow me to block key words like Camp Legeune, ring a bell for anyone else? Going to switch to Outlook now I guess.
Notifications
Tim Tee Tee on 2022-12-02
I never had an issue with the GMail app. It’s actually phenomenal but the reason for the two stars is that now I don’t receive any notifications at all. I have missed out on important emails and missed out on important things due to no notifications prompting to alert me that I have an email. I have updated my phone, I have updated the app, I have plenty of space and even bought storage space monthly, so there’s plenty of room. My settings are correct on both ends so why can I get notifications anymore then??? Can this be fixed ?
HELP!
Emmacool unicorn on 2022-12-02
All of my emails disappeared from my gmail and I cannot find anyone to help me?? I’ve seen where they said this happened with the last IOS update. Is there anybody I can talk to or some way to restore my email? All of my inbox, starred, sent ALL of it gone! I have 2 emails accounts linked through my iOS mail app, both gmail accounts…my newest one is fine but my older email with all my important stuff is the one where I lost everything. I’ve done the Gmail recovery tool and nothing has worked.
