I’m not sure what’s up with the latest updates but I’ve noticed the same issue in the android version on my other phone. When you open a message and you’re reading it and scrolling through the body of the message it jerks and hesitates as you’re moving down the message. It must be something in the app itself because it’s on two different platforms and two different phones. When I go into the native email client on my iPhone it doesn’t do it; it only does it in the Gmail app. My Outlook app does not do this either. It’s too bad because I hate relying on the native email app in iOS because it can take a long time for email to come through.
One day, i was trying to log in to my account from my computer and it asked me to verify a code from a phone i no longer had. When i chose the “try another way” option, it told me to try to log in again and answer more questions this time. Sounds normal, right? Wrong. The thing is, IT NEVER GAVE ME SECURITY QUESTIONS TO BEGIN WITH. So now I'm locked out of my account. Its all good, i have an alternate email. Nope. Same thing. And i made this one after i had gotten rid of the last phone! So i tried my other alternate account. Same. Thing. I made that one a while ago but never even enabled 2fa on it. Never. Again.
My app was crashing every 30 seconds and it was impossible to write an email or send a chat message without the app crashing. I filed many feedback and I have been living like this (re writing my chat responses cuz it crashes mid sentence) for a few months. It was so incredibly frustrating and impossible to work. Then I just deleted the app having been so frustrated and reinstalled it. It looks like the problem has gone away but I wish there was a notification to tell me to do this in the first place and didn’t wait for me to hate working on gmail and deciding to uninstall to find out that I had to do this.
I used to be okay with the app until they removed the chat feature. Now you have to get an entirely new app for it. On top of this, its still advertised on the app store that chat is in fact included when there is no button for it. Please add this feature back to the app.
As well as this, there is no mass-deleting selection from anything other than the trash, which means it takes forever to delete through emails.
If the features are fixed/added, i will gladly revoke this review.
Thanks!
As of now however, these issues are still present. Wouldn’t recommend unless you dont mind these problems.
The UI in the inbox is better than iPhone email, but if you have more than a couple gmail accounts to keep track of the app is unusable. The Gmail accounts don’t stay in the same order on the screen so there’s no easy way to flip through them all unless you remember which one you’ve checked. I leave unread messages in my inbox if I intend to read them later (I know… betrays inbox 0, but anyway…) so the presence/absence of unread messages isn’t a usable indicator of new messages for me. Seems like this would be an easy thing to fix. In the meantime I guess I’m headed back to iPhone mail…
For mail needs does what I need it to. I've been a gmail user for like forever so I like the integration. But why, after all this time time and complaints by other users do you still not have a "Select all" emails option? This just seems so basic and rudimentary. Other smaller companies have had this feature for years in their email apps. It's just shoddy for a company the size of google to add features they like but ignore the will and needs of their users.
And yes, I've already submitted official feedback, for all the good it will do.
**Switching to alternate app** In app inbox ads are inappropriate, an invasion of privacy, and have no place within the gmail app disguised as emails. It’s effectively google allowing companies to bribe them to bypass their otherwise superior spam filters. I understand that if I’m searching something online, that’s begrudgingly acceptable. But ads forcibly injected into my email without my consent or control, I already get enough spam, not to mention just makes feel violated. Like they’re electronically molesting my email.
Although my notification setting is turned on ,it doesn’t work for new emails Since a long long time ago. I have to always refresh my app to get new emails. I have searched a lot about this problem on google forums, and tried many ways such as reinstalling the app and turning on all the notification’s setting, but the problem still exists for my account in all my devices. At first this problem was started with my iPhone and continued to affect all my devices gradually…my PC & Galaxy Tablet also has this problem.
I’m not sure what happened, but around a week or two ago, some updated must’ve changed something to my normal functioning app and now it crashes within every 10 seconds of using it. I’ve tried everything in the book, downloaded and reinstalled the app, turned off my iPhone, and signed out of my accounts, but the issue won’t go away. When I say crashes I mean I will be accessing my account, and a few seconds go by and the app goes black and takes me back to the Home Screen. Please help and fix this issue!
It’s basically Google’s job to ruin apps and break features people actually use/enjoy; just look at YouTube. And they could care less what we have to say/think; again, look at YouTube.
Gmail works fine usually, my only gripe is the the “Storage Used: % out of GB” bar; it’s annoying. There is absolutely no reason for that to be there at all. Either get rid of it, or let us (the users) have a choice to disable/hide it. Not that hard of a request really, since it wasn’t there before…so yeah. Undo.
