Better than I expected
O.E.P. on 2022-09-28
I have to be honest. I had barely read about GroupMe until around April of 2022. That’s when I suddenly was in teams and groups that only used GroupMe for everything so I had to learn in. Sorry for the essay in advance. —————————————————— THE THINGS I LIKE I really like how easy it is to create and share a new group. I’ve made 3 groups in the last 3 weeks (as of writing this review). I tend to be in larger teams so it’s really nice to have a complicated process of inviting. I also like how you can allow everyone to edit the group if needed. I tend to stick with only admin but I like the option and can see a future where I use it. I also really like how you can change the like buttons. I’ve been using the taco and the dog for two of my groups. I would like to see some more options but not a deal breaker and just a fun addition that I like to play with. I’ve been jumping from app-to-app made for groups (the free ones of course) and GroupMe has turned out to be the simplest and easiest option. I am not a huge fan of the chat view (which I mention below) but it’s not a deal breaker and still better looking than so many of the apps I’ve tested. —————————————————— THE APPRECIATED ADJUSTMENTS It was a little confusing at first because it didn’t feel and still doesn’t feel too clear on who the message is from inside the app. I kind of would like to see more chat-bubble-like separation so make it simpler to learn and use. Another thing I would like to see is the ability to tag messages. I use an app called BAND because I produce short films and need to be able to communicate with my teams quickly but more importantly be able to find information from the past quickly. I personally really want to make the switch to GroupMe for my film teams but that’s really holing me back. —————————————————— CONCLUSION Other than those things I’ve grown to love GroupMe and have beed a bug advocate for it with other groups/teams I’ve joined that really just need the ability to communicate fast, add calendar events, and maybe have a poll every once in a while. Great job team!
Great app

I LOVE GroupMe. I use it for groups at school, at work, and for one-on-one conversations as well. All around, it’s great. It has a clean user interface, it’s fast, in real time. I love being able to add gifs, polls, videos, pictures, etc to our but I feel like there are a few ways it could be improved to make it even more useful/ easier to use My only irks as far as videos and pictures go is the quality is LOW. I recommend taking videos or picture outside of the app on your normal camera and uploading, versus using the in app GroupMe camera. I’ve also found that pictures uploaded still lose quality, so if there’s any small text then zooming in on it is just not worth it since it will end up blurry. Outside of that, I have no complaints for the media, etc. The ONLY thing I wish this app would offer is PINNED messages. I run multiple chats for work, and being able to pin/甩头ar/etc important messages for everyone to access and refer back to would be AMAZING. I think this would be a great feature to offer to admins of groups. You can search most popular messages, but this is not always useful if the messages that need to be seen by new members, etc, are too far back in the chat to be relevant in the popular messages anymore. If this feature was added, GroupMe would take the cake for, in my opinion, the best group messaging app. Outside of this, the app is great, it does what it’s supposed to, and it’s reliable!
Could use some tweaks, but overall I’d recommend

First, I would like to lead with PLEASE create a setting that allows me to disable people just adding me to group chats. Or at least have to request I join before adding me. I am overwhelmed by the number of chats I am added to on a pretty constant basis. But beyond that, the app is pretty user friendly and easy to navigate. I do wish you could pin messages so important ones aren’t missed, but you can search for a message within a group so you can easily find a message you’re looking for. There’s different chat themes which is cute, chats can be made private and require admin approval to add new people, and being able to determine how long you’d like to mute notifications is nice as well. It can get harder to navigate with larger groups especially if you have some chatty folks. A slow mode feature could be great, and improve experiences for larger groups (as far as I know it doesn’t yet exist right now). But overall, solid app.
Bugs Everywhere

GroupMe must’ve got rid of Office Mode, which is fine because no one ever used it. However, some girl in a group I’m in accidentally turned it on before they got rid of it, so the group is permanently muted for everyone. Not to mention, GroupMe is still lacking features every other messaging app has such as deleting ANY message, not recently sent ones. There is also no easy way to unlike messages. However, the main issue GroupMe has is most group owners end up abandoning their account, so we get stuck in countless dead groups with no ability to end the groups. Why are members not allowed to end groups? Why are inactive groups not automatically ended? Leaving groups does not do anything. All of your messages and likes remain within that group and left groups move to a separate list. Deleting your GroupMe account does not do anything either. All of your messages, likes, and contacts remain after you delete your account.
No response

I used this app a few years back. I honestly don’t remember using it. However, when I went to create an account I learned I already had one but my old phone number was associated with it. I reached out to customer service on 8/12 and all I have received was a back and forth email log asking the same questions over and over with NO resolve! It’s now 9/6 and I’m still waiting on someone to respond to me. The app won’t allow me to create a new account and I am unable to get into the old account. I need it because a group I’m associated with uses it for communicating information 🙄
BEWARE: YouTube access
#1Michelle on 2022-09-28
As far as a group messaging apps go I’d give it a 4 (pictures don’t share as easily as other apps). For kid safety 0 stars. There is a way to easily access all of YouTube and no way to disable access and full access is available through the app. As a messaging app I don’t see why this is necessary at all. I wish this feature could be disabled or even better gone. If you want to share a YouTube video just send a link. Totally unnecessary IMO.
stupid app won’t let me in
i'mhighlydisappoint on 2022-09-28
i used group me a long time with an old number associated to it. when i tried logging on, it won’t let me in and for a back up code and verification number. WELL I DONT HAVE IT BECAUSE I CHANGED MY NUMBER. i reset my password and it still won’t let me in. i tried everything and it still won’t work. it needs to fix the verification process since my old number is still there.
What needs to be improved 🚨
GroupMe Granger on 2022-09-28
GroupeMe needs to revamp the mute group feature; it’s very important for me to mute a group but it basically does nothing. I want muted groups to never notify me of messages in or out of the app. MUTED MEANS MUTED. I would also like member profile notes and group-specific member bios akin to Discord. Thanks, I will never download Slack or Remind
Always an Issue

Constantly having issues adding people. Randomly sending individual messages don’t work. No way to pin key messages for a group. I have a group that no one can seem to add certain people. Just trash. Every time I get an organization using this 🗑 app - I just release a massive groan because of all of the issues headed our way.
Spam Problem
Amber😌 on 2022-09-28
GroupMe works great for group messaging with classes and clubs, but the amount of bots that get into groups even if they are closed is crazy. In some of the groups I am in they get one, sometimes more spam messages per day. Definitely needs to add some sort of higher security for making accounts/ joining groups
