This is a terrific app. It does not have all the features of AllTrails (like photo embedding on your tracked route), but it has all the features I want. I love the interface vs AllTrails and Gaia. Very easy to find hikes. In the map view, trails are color coded the same as ski trails: green=easy, etc. Can import, export GPX and recommend trails to be added. Download offline maps, track your route with all elevation stats.
I’m currently stuck in Reno as the ski season ended abruptly with the coronavirus. But only 45 minutes from Lake Tahoe, and via Mount Rose Highway, still in the same Nevada County, so not breaking any orders. At least we can leave our own neighborhood for exercise! With 80 hikes in the Tahoe area I’m not going to get bored.
Since update trails are no longer on map. Tried contacting support, as I hate to leave a poor review, and pop up told me no support available due to Covid. But that is ludicrous, update to app that killed it happened during this. So devs working but no customer service??? Please fix this really loved this app and am in deep need of out of doors during this time. App was really helpful in finding less used trail heads and parking, a huge plus while trying to socially isolate.
I checked if cellular data was on in my phone settings; it was. Toggled it on/off and still no luck to sync/download maps.
Also checked the settings in the app for “WiFi Only” and toggled those on/off and the sync error remains. Makes it to about ~30% before it fails.
I did read some people had success deleting the app and reinstalling. Tried that and Yes; success with syncing maps.
This app is exactly what I was looking for.
Features include crowd sourced hikes, photographs, reviews, and user updates to popular trails. Of note, it seems to load with less data than alltrails, and doesn’t drain my cell phone battery as quickly as alltrails either.
For a free app, it has everything I need. Paired with a hard map as a backup, you can’t go wrong.
Cleaning up my phone and checked out this app to see if I should keep. Doesn’t appear to show any trails at all. (Note reinstalled and redownloaded my state as suggested by developer and there’s trails there now. Small fraction of what I know is there so I wonder if the crowd sourced only model for this really works.
Was not able to download the map to use offline which makes the app good for planning at home only but not to use in the backcountry where there is no service. I read that they have been working on making the single maps downloadable since 2016. That is a long time.
It seems the app is a bit buggy. I am able to login l, but none of my favorites are listed. I can’t even see any trails in the map. Nothing is working. However, the website works just fine. I have the new iPhone SE 2020 and am using the latest OS.
No trails will load.
Update- thanks for the tip - that fixed it. We like the trails on here and I especially appreciate the topography- which makes it easy to zero in on interesting areas from afar. Keep the trails coming, please!
No ads, no premium crap just excellent graphics and lots of amazing contributors. Updates (if wonky) get fixed quickly.
If you’re an outdoor junkie you need this
How do you use this app? No instructions. How it gets great reviews is a mystery to me. Deleting. Besides .5 mile trails? Sounds like a parking lot hike.
