Our TV model was to purchase 4K TVs and have an Apple TV behind each one in order to download all the different streaming apps, ie Hulu, Netflix, etc. This was back in 2017 when there were very few choices native to TVs. We have been using Hulu live San our main live streaming service since 2020 (with updated Apple TV with hard wired 1GB connection) and the entire time the shows kept buffering, starting minutes later than on the 1/2 hour, buffering when a program goes from one to the other, and sometimes we would get errors like this channel can not be viewed at this time. We would get these errors several times a week, it not several times a day where the resolution would be to reset the Apple TV. I called Hulu about 5 times to resolve this issue, and they couldn’t even figure it out. THey even sent me to my ISP.
Found that our Home zip code of my internet connection did not match the billing zip code. Even when I changed the billing zip code to match, there is an option to Change Home on the Apple TV App and it would never work properly.
Fast forward to a couple months ago when we bought newer TVs with all of the major streaming services built in and started using the native Hulu app. No issues. No buffering, there are no errors, I dont get lag when a program goes from one to the other.
Since we use all of the major streaming services, bouncing between TV and Apple TV would be a pain so we are even ditching the Apple TV device.
I have never written a review before but felt the need to for an app so popular and when I saw so many people were dealing with the same problems, you can’t block any ads or have any control over them. I can’t watch horror ads without muting the sound and not look at the screen. I will literally be watching cartoons and these horrible ads come on so often (like 6 times in the span of a 25 minute show is not okay.) I prepare for it since it happens so much, with family and friends its embarrassing and ruins the whole reason I (and lots of us) watch tv is to distract ourselves and rewind:,)! With a quick google search you’ll come to see this is not a small problem and alcoholics also struggle with this with alcohol ads. There is a Hulu community website where people can do q&a’s and tons of people are and have been unhappy with this. You should be able to have control of things that trigger you and say not interested regardless of paying not paying for the ad free version. This is no joke and can completely trigger a problem for the viewers. It doesn’t make me want to pay for it, it makes me want to cancel my subscription. Terrible customer service, terrible reporting system, terrible everything. I would suggest liking, upvoting, or also leaving reviews or your opinions on Reddit, Hulu community, the App Store, etc.
Hulu do the right thing and find a solution to this.
Recently the Hulu app on my Vizio TVs started not opening and showing “no internet” prompts while all other apps, including other streaming services, continued to work.
Chatted with Hulu support and they said they’ve had similar complaints and they are looking into. They even offered to take off the charge for the days it hadn’t been working. After a couple weeks of varying messages explaining there being an issue it appears as Hulu has opted to just abandon supporting these devices all together. They now have a message stating it is not support on this device.
It’s obvious they had an issue with certain devices an opted not to deal with it and rather just abandoned supporting them. Kind of a slap in the face to customers. I work in the industry and one thing you don’t do is get a bug with certain devices and then just opt to abandon support with no communication to your customers.
Other thing is the apps on my iPhone and iPad have been terribly recently. They don’t maintain the episode or place it was at on an episode. Also when auto play is on, instead of going to the next episode, it just jumps to random shows I have never seen before.
It’s bad, like of all the streaming services I have or have had, this past couple months of Hulu have been like nothing I’ve ever seen. Seeing as it’s almost unwatchable at this point, might be time to take a break.
You’d think that a top streaming app like Hulu would work properly on the world’s most popular tablet. I’ve tried everything to get this app to work properly on my iPad, yet nothing helps eliminate the extreme lag, timeouts, constant loading and crashing.
I have no speed issues with other apps, have super fast internet and speed tests, have tried reinstalling, updates, router resets, restarts, power downs, etc. Nothing helps. Not to mention the odd interface behaviors. It’s a good looking app but meaningless if it doesn’t work. The cheaper Hulu service on my Roku works pretty well, but this streaming Hulu Live experience is the absolute worst.
On a side note, it’s ridiculous that Hulu has such annoying restrictions on location usage, preventing paying users from watching on their Roku when you’re on the road or staying somewhere away from home. Which is why I have to use this awful iPad app.
It’s also annoying how Hulu charges extra for everything (only streaming service where you can’t fast forward through commercials or record single episodes without paying $15 extra). With all of the commercials you have to watch with cable, they shouldn’t be charging extra for these features on top of an already pricy service. It’s no wonder people are opting for Netflix, which is far cheaper, has no commercials, is not buggy and has more watchable content.
Now that they’ve finally upgraded their library so that the majority of their movies aren’t straight to video titles from 10-20 yrs ago, as it was a few yrs ago, you’d think they smooth out their technical bugs. But no, they STILL have the following bugs on roku: -if you happen to fall asleep while bingeing a series, whenever you come back it will ALWAYS go to the farthest you’ve gone in a series, even if the last time you stopped at an earlier episode; - the rew/ff buttons are so slow that unless you want to wait a minute you have to keep your finger pressed down in the other buttons; “Continue Watching” excludes certain titles (no rhyme or reason as to which ones) so you either have to find the title again or go to “My Stuff” to continue; -if you watch w/ the subtitles on, it will overlap with the hard coded subtitles or credits (other streaming apps move them temporarily at the top). And on iOS, if you happen to use a different account later, there is NO way to log out of your existing account. The fact that they’ve had these same bugs for AT LEAST 3 YRS AGO is borderline hilarious. Especially as they’re charging close to the prices of Netflix, HBO Max, etc. Will never pay again for this service until they fix these bugs, which you don’t see on any other streaming apps, really.
First of all, be warned of the misleading and manipulative advertising with the Disney and ESPN+ bundle. You can not watch any sports/games on the ESPN+ bundle without also purchasing live tv. You’ll only have access to the news and extras.
Live tv has many glitches. I stream it on a tablet.
I don’t need 3-4 minute long commercial breaks every 5 minutes. 2 minute long commercial breaks are enough. If I rewind, I have to rewatch the same commercial breaks.
The beginning of a program might be cut off when resuming after commercial breaks.
When watching an older episode of a program it will jump me to whatever is airing live within that program. So for ex. if I’m watching something for the first time and want to start with the first season, it will jump me forward to the current season if it’s airing live.
Way too expensive once you consider add ons. Without add on channels you’re just watching basic tv and reruns of many of the same shows that Hulu basic already offers.
Many of the live channels don’t air 24/7.
I tried it for a month but won’t continue. I enjoy ESPN+ during football season. But it’s too expensive for too many glitches, lack of functionality and lack of extras.
I have never taken the time in my life to write a review for a single app, however, the Hulu mobile app is so horrible, I had to do it. I have never been as frustrated with technology as I have when using this app. If you are 5 minutes away from finishing an episode, turn off your phone, and then return to it, Hulu assumes you’re done with said episode, and moves on to the next. If you put your phone down and pick it up again after 10 minutes, expecting to smoothly pick up where you left off watching your show, Hulu decides to not work anymore (and once it does start to work again, it will move you to the next episode half the time, even if you just began it!! If God forbid you switch your WiFi while watching something on the app, forget about watching anything for the next excruciatingly annoying 5 full minutes. In conclusion, this is an absolute atrocity of an app. I am in bewilderment that Hulu, an internet-based television provider company, has successfully created one of (if not) the worst mobile streaming apps this world has yet seen.
Please fix your Apple TV app for better performance on live sports. I’ve been watching the MLB playoffs and the stream will reliably freeze about every 20 minutes, showing Hulu’s loading spinner. This happens on all 3 of my Apple TVs and only in live sports broadcasts, so it seems like a performance bug in the app.
Also, I tried to watch Monday Night Football staring an hour late from my Hulu DVR recording and it was the worst viewing experience I have ever had in any video app. Hulu would randomly add advertising markers in the stream, causing the playhead to skip around or skip ahead after the ad played, sometimes interrupting the live broadcast, and always skipping ahead 5-10 minutes in the game after the ad played. It ruined the game for me and left me wondering what I am paying for.
As a Disney company, Hulu should have access to Bamtech and ESPN video players, right? These work so much better for live sports. Please fix!
Wide variety larger than Netflix and better than HBO max for sure. Now I could write a whole thesis to go into detail but I’ll reframe. Sure this streaming service is great but there are some things that really get me P.O. … firstly if you don’t have the full series let the viewer know with maybe saying it in the description! What’s the point of getting invested or getting this whole app for incomplete show!!!Also if you only have half of the series or even less than that in a Dub or Sub you should let them know!! For that reason if anyone here is looking for a complete anime don’t get your hopes up lol 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼Big L and fix it Hulu especially when it’s advertised online with blurred lines! Besides that wonderful app ultimately won’t ever top 123 movies or kissanime but great service and quality in many aspects.
For a while, the iPhone/AppleTV app were usable. Won’t say great, but decent. I canceled subscription after the last big app update. Just checked back but it isn’t any better. Personally, I hate the Netflix style interface. The sorting and browsing is awful, unless you just consume what they present to you front and center. Otherwise you end up selecting a genre, and if the sub-genre you want didn’t make the cut, your stuck scrolling for the next 30 minutes through the A to Z category. In the mood for a 50’s - 60’s creature feature? Browse horror from A-Z and hope you get lucky! Want to watch an old cowboy western? Not even a category anymore! Tag/parametric based search please. Genre, sub-genres, actors, decade, year, season, rating, most recent, etc. For TV shows, a ‘most recent releases’ would be nice when you clicked a genre.
