June 2021 update: The LoseIt widget is no longer working on iPhones. The widget says that it cannot load the information. I’ve removed and reinstalled the widget a few times to see if this would fix it, but it doesn’t. Please address this issue!
October 2020 update: It seems that the screens to join a Challenge are not working properly. Sometimes the buttons on the screen work and sometimes they don’t. I am unable to join a Challenge for the month of October because of this reason. Specifically, the JOIN button doesn’t respond. Other buttons to go view other Challenges also don’t work. November 2017 Update: The developers still have not addressed the concern where user-added food items are often incorrect and inaccurate. I wish there was a way that I could screen out those entries in the app. I don’t want to see the food items that other users have entered because I don’t trust their information or accuracy! To be quite honest, I wish they would take away the option for users to share their food entries with the entire community altogether. So much wrong information is being crammed into the food nutritional database that way.
August 2016 Update: The app has improved since my last review in 2015. I'm glad the developers addressed all those issues that many others also complained about. One thing I wish they would do to improve the app would be to make an option to NOT see the foods that were added to the database by other users. Over time, the database is getting more and more crowded with inaccurate and incorrect entries from other users. Because of this reason, I do not want to see the entries made by other users and wish there was a way to screen them out. The most recent update in April 2015 is terrible! It removes the ability to add custom foods. I guess maybe they want you to use the built-in scanner and start scanning barcodes create new food items in your log. I don't like that. Invasion of privacy. Half the time the bar codes have incorrect information anyway regarding nutrients, calories, fat content, etc. I have learned the hard way NOT to automatically download and install an app update. Before downloading the recent massive LoseIt! update, I came on here to read the reviews about it. That's when I discovered the latest update ruined the app. So...I didn't bother downloading the update to my iPhone and, instead, will wait until an update is released that gets good reviews from other users. SO glad my LoseIt! app still measures food in cups, ounces, tablespoons, etc. and NOT in grams!
Coming from over a year with WW- it was no longer working as I kept going up and down. I never could figure out how fruit could be zero points? It works for some and I applaud them. I think WW approach is deliberately slow to keep you paying month after month. I like the fact that Lose It estimates how long it will take to reach your goal.
So looking for a new approach my cousin told me about Lose It. I couldn’t be happier with this app as it tracks so many different things (I.e. blood pressure, sleep, carbs, proteins, exercise etc.).
And for the cost vs WW,I am saving $200 a year. And it counts calories so there’s no conversion to points. Very simple very easy. The only negative so far is that the bar code scanner is often wrong and sometimes the calories given don’t agree what’s on the package or it gets the description wrong. Yogurt is not a smoothie. But those are minor. When creating your own food, it scans the nutritional information on the package which is amazing. Very happy with this and feel I will use it for the long term.
Spread the word. Thank you.
Six years ago I used this app and lost 50 pounds and 4 dress sizes. Unfortunately I quit tracking what I ate and gained about 20 pounds back in the last three years, so I am back to using the app and believe it will help me get back to my goal weight again in six months or less. This is a wonderful app. I am certain it could successfully be used for maintenance as well. This time I intend to keep tracking after I lose the weight and stay on a maintenance plan once I am down to goal. This app makes weight loss possible and increases the user's awareness and improves their health. It teaches that we all have a calorie budget that we need to spend wisely.
I love this app! It’s so easy to use, it has everything I nee (water intake, calorie counter, adjustable calories per meal, custom # of meals, patterns, streaks, etc). The only thing that makes me unhappy is that it doesn’t have Russia as a choice of database! Being from Russia, loving Russian food, and visiting Russia, it is very hard to use this app in Russia! I would say it is soooo inconveniente that I decided to write a review! I am also a member, so I am sad that I can’t use this app while I’m in Russia.... please, fix this! And I will put a 5 start rating!
Since downloading and actually purchasing the full license I have had better control on not just what I eat but what I prepare, even with what so just have in my fridge or pantry. This APP is a tool to help me retrain my eating habits and slowly get rid of bad eating habits. Once I return to work in a few months the real test will present itself. As a truck driver I will hopefully have better planned meals but I hope my habits of buying junk food and eating bad foods will go away. Lose It is worth the cost and effort and makes recording almost effortlessly as well.
I started using this app many years ago. Here’s what I realized, if I used it everyday and stayed within my calorie allotment, the weight came off.
Years later, the weight is still off. This app not only changed what I eat but changed the way I think about food. I could see that 5 oz of fish or chicken or beef varied in their calorie content. I could make a smarter calorie choice by selecting certain foods over other high calorie foods and have a fuller feel all day. Who wants a diet where you walk around hungry??? Not me. Lose It works!
I like the idea of a food tracking app and lose it is on par with other apps. The big issue is that if you have a good delivery service there are often 5+ entries for the food that are either incorrect or the recipe changed. Unfortunately the database is the selling point for an app over just keeping a note book or spreadsheet. If I have to dig for each entry it’s just easier for me to write them down myself instead of hunting through incorrect entries. Again this isn’t a lose it problem. It’s a problem with all of these types of apps.
The App could not be easier to use. It is a fantastic tool to keep track of your calories in… And the exercise you perform daily (even tasks you perform around the house). It is very easy to pull down food items, even able to enter your own recipes, and you can load Yesterdays meals to make it even easier. In addition you can scan bar codes to upload new foods to the app. Lose it even tells you your total and net calories per day, and the calorie percentages of fat carbohydrates and proteins. Can’t say enough about Loseit
I've been at it for almost half a year now and it's made me WAY more aware of what I ate. It helps with tracking calories daily, and it's crazy what you can manage with it.
A plate of Panda Express would destroy my diet, but a burger is way cheaper for how much you get to eat. Consistently knowing how to handle your meals will make this SUPER easy, and you get it for free. There are extra add-ons you can buy, but I've been using the free version since day one. Definitely a must for weight management.
