Not worth it anymore...
God's Little Girl 21 on 2020-08-10
Update: I had already I deleted this app because it’s not worth paying premium for all the tech issues it has. I updated the app during the last update since they said the new update fixed some of those glitches. I opened it today to check back on my weight and food calories from a couple months ago and now it just constantly freezes every time you open it. You tap something to select and frozen. Close the app and open it and it freezes again. And I thought it couldn’t get worse. Definitely done with MFP now. I had hope they would fix it since the app used to be wonderful. Used it for years. And now it’s garbage. Old Review: MyFitnessPal used to be one of my favorite and most useful apps. I paid for the premium version because I wanted to log my exercises in one place but I did not want my food calories affected. I turned off the feature to increase the exercise calories, which you can only do with premium, since I was only wanting to see my food calories. The exercise recording was just to have everything in one place and to see if I also hit my workout goals set along my food goals. The feature keeps resetting on its own and turning on several times. And unfortunately, once it’s on, it’s affects your whole diary. I contacted customer service several times about this issue and even though it reset when the app was updated. Today it reset again and my app was updated 3 days ago so I don’t think that’s the issue. I don’t know if anyone else is having this issue but it’s frustrating to pay lots of money for a feature that you do not get and customer service can’t seem to understand. I’ve canceled my premium membership and will only use the free version until I find an app that lets me log food and exercise but does not increase my daily food goal based on my exercises.

Update2: I set a carb goal for 200g per day, but when I go to look at my macros, it shows my daily goal as 240g. Double checked on two different devices and reinstalled the app on both. No matter what I set my goal to, in my macros it shows it as 240g. Can’t believe a premium account this expensive has so many glitches. Update1: decided to come back to this app and payed the ridiculous premium price for a month so I could track my macros. In the last 10 minutes it’s frozen ~5 times, making me have to close and reopen it every time. I want to like this app so badly, but they just give me so many reasons to be frustrated with them. Old review: Progress photos post upside-down. I notified the developer and they told me to upload from a computer or try saving them upside-down on my iPad and then upload. Uuummmmm wut? Really? I pay $10 per month to use this app, so maybe you should just fix the app. It’s very easy to input food and track macros if you eat a bunch of prepared, processed or packaged food. It’s a not very helpful if you know how to cook tough. For example, if you make your own cream of mushroom soup, it’s a disaster trying to input all the ingredients and figure out the macros. When inputting a food item, you must select from the prelisted serving sizes and then how many of those servings you ate. For example, it may say a serving of beef is 3oz. If I ate a pound of brisket, I have to put into the app that I ate 5.33 servings. Why not just let me put in that I ate 16oz or 1lb?

I’ve always had issues with eating properly. Last year I’d always skip breakfast, eat a small side for school lunch, and eat a moderate dinner. (I guess it was due to my mental health but I never realized it until now) Anyways, I would repeat this unhealthy pattern and always wondered why I was so skinny. I felt so ugly every time I looked in the mirror, where I criticized and shamed my body until I ran out of insults. For months I tried everything to gain weight, from eating loads of junk food (thinking it would help me) to drinking just protein shakes as a meal. It was up until a few weeks ago when I finally realized I wasn’t consuming enough calories (alongside the fact that I wasn’t eating enough). Ever since I got this app (just about 4 weeks ago), I have been eating a healthy amount of food. I’ve gained weight in the places I’ve wanted to gain weight, and I haven’t felt this happy about my body in years. I’ve always had issues with committing to the daily 2,000 calorie diet, but this app has helped me eat the normal amount and I am so grateful. It has also changed my eating habits—I used to eat junk food in unhealthy amounts but using this app has helped me stay away from fatty foods and has guided me towards eating not only healthier foods, but eating them in healthy amounts. Thanks to this app, my body finally looks like a normal person’s body. Thank you so much to the team that keeps this app running.

Only giving this app 2 stars because it’s a great, accurate tool for tracking my calories and macros. I have been using MFP as my primary food-tracker for the past 3+ years, since it offers a thorough breakdown of macros and micronutrients, and the widest selection of foods available for calorie counting. So a plus on that. What makes this app such a low rating for me is how PAINFULLY SLOW it is. It wasn’t this slow when I first downloaded the app, but over the past 2 years it has just gotten slower. It takes forever just to get past the blue loading screen, then even longer to load search results and log foods that I’m tracking. Sometimes it will log the same food twice, because why the hell not. Already wasting 5 minutes to perform a simple function, might as well double my calories while you’re at it. The “performance issues” you guys claim to fix in each update have done NOTHING to fix this. I’ve tried deleting & re-installing the app, nothing. MFP team, FIX THIS!!! I don’t know how much longer I can take of this aggravation.
Pushed me to progress

This is a very complete app, and it encourages me to look at myself and to be a better version of myself every day. The suggestions are great and I love how it connects with so many other apps and devices that I already use, making it even more relevant. The food diary is probably my favorite feature, there isn’t a food you can imagine that isn’t already in their log, but if you want to come up with a food, you’re welcome to add your recipes and, boom! - there they are, calorie by calorie ready to be added in your diary. The only complaint I have is that the water tracker doesn’t seem to log water consumption into the Apple Health App, which is a shame. It would be nice if the connectivity between Apple Health and MyFitnessPal was a little bit better and more informative.
Good for tracking calories but not for exercise features
sj8907 on 2020-08-10
there are so many fitness apps but none of them have it all. Some are good in one aspect while others are good at other aspect. This app is good for tracking calories as you can scan any bar code and chances are the app will find it and automatically have all the info. other apps lack this vast food log. But it’s exercise is not good as they are in WORDs!! no one exercise now with reading words - videos are so much more easier. The thing is there are videos but you have to click on it. imaging every 30 seconds to get your phone and click for next exercise and click for that video to play??? such hassle! if tracking calories is more important for you then this is best buy if you care about other things more then you can try some other apps.
Not syncing between tablet/phone
kOhio on 2020-08-10
Went to log lunch on my iPad and under breakfast it asks log from 4 days ago? I logged breakfast on my iPhone for the past three days why didn’t sync? Today’s lunch logged on the iPad - which didn’t even save the first time - doesn’t show on the iPhone tho. Reading the app comments from the past few days I see more complaints about the app than compliments. An ongoing issue that I wish would be fixed and one I’ve never had another app do is like a stabilization issue; when I swipe right to add an entry if I am not swiping in the exact right place the screen goes back to the food diary homepage and I have to redo the search again for the food. It’s happened multiple times with MFP but never on any other app when I swipe.

I have used this app for years and loved it, never having any issues; however, the last month or so, it has been glitching horribly. It will freeze and not let me select the items I need or it will close all together, and these things happen literally about a dozen times a day, making what used to be a simple task of tracking my meals a cumbersome one. The app is updated, as is my phone, so I’m left to assume they are maybe slowing the data in hopes I will go premium? If that is the case, it seems like a poor way to try sell your app (I’m not going to give money to something that isn’t working). It is disappointing, as I’ve always loved this service.
New UI Lacking
fwoom on 2020-08-10
I pay for a subscription, and turn off the exercise calorie increase, and it keeps randomly turning back on. Great way to derail my entire weight loss program. Extremely frustrating, especially when the newer UI doesn’t immediately show that it’s adding calories on the dashboard anymore. You don’t immediately realize what’s happened, and then you eat too much, thinking you need to eat more for the day. Extremely frustrating to pay for premium features that randomly get turned off, plus getting ads, despite paying for an ad-free experience. I may or may not renew. I’ve been a paid subscriber for a long time. This is ridiculous.
Restaurant Logging
AweAdri on 2020-08-10
This app already has some problems such as the being painfully slow sometimes or having inaccurate food choices comparable to what you actually ate, but I could deal with those with a little patience. But now that they’ve removed restaurant logging, the app has become significantly less user friendly. The ease that came with logging restaurant foods with a couple taps has now been deleted. The FAQ says that you can simply search for the restaurant + the food, but in my experience the search bar is not always the most comprehensive. So I’m very disappointed in this app and I’m thinking of looking for a replacement
