In APP purchases, and subscriptions are effectively saying goodbye to me.

This dictionary used to work, no features demanded more money. I just now opened it, and probably never will again. Hey money people until you jerks pay living wages, there ain’t one of us who will be able to afford, or justify, the push to pay for any feature or function, again, and again, and again. Many of us are already pulling old systems out of the closets, the systems that could be fixed, upgraded, and that used software we only had to pay for once. Maybe again if there was a major upgrade. But I mean MAJOR. Good luck with the run, it’ll get your executives some fat bonuses, but ultimately shady business is rewarded with aversion to anything you do. I certainly don’t see this product in the same light. Once upon a time I was looking into buying a print version. Not anymore. Funny how one burn can splatter consequences through the whole interaction. Isn’t it?
Mobi Systems Failure
CarlMcK on 2020-02-19
The overall product does its job satisfactorily. However, when opening the app you get a pop up that keeps reoccurring saying give us a five star rating. You cannot lower the rating from five stars, which is completely obnoxious. When I wrote to complain I received a rather sarcastic response that they would look at my request and see if making a change was viable. Viable? To stop manipulating reviews isn’t a matter of doing the right thing for Mobi Systems, it’s a matter of “viability”. The one star rating is for the company’s lack of ethics, and to bring a little balance for all of the forged 5 stars.
Why everything needs Internet/payment?

Can there be a free offline official Oxford Dictionary app ever? Being a non-native English speaker, I get sick to my stomach, when I think about the greed of these so called educationists like Oxford, ...ehhhh. In my view, and most of you’ll agree with me, greed is the only possible reason I can think of, which is solely responsible for millions of people, like me, who’re left behind in the race for quality English and for that reason quality education. I wonder how big is the size of your coffers and bellies? Get us a free official Oxford Dictionary app NOW - period.
Good definitions in a very bad app
Johnny5321 on 2020-02-19
Every time you open the app to look up a word, you get hit with a Rate us 5* with the rating already selected and it won’t escape. Ads run across the bottom of the page constantly. Full-page ads appear every few seconds and completely cover whatever definition you’re reading. No easy way to escape ads (the little x is in the upper left corner but it causes app to crash if you successfully hit the x). Definitions include history of the word. If Oxford licensed this version, this app will ruin Oxford’s good name. Shamefully bad. (2/2/2020)
User Interface is not intuitive and audio quality is bad

I actually bought both the Merriam Webster Dictionary App and this app. Compared to the Merriam app I’m disappointed. This user interface is less intuitive and the audio quality of the pronunciation feature is terrible. More than that, the audio doesn’t work unless you put headphones in. It’s annoying to say the least when you have to plug headphones in to listen to a word pronunciation. That being said, the definitions are better than the Merriam app. So overall, the Merriam app is a better experience but this is a better dictionary.

Great dictionary. Gives you a great definition. The reason I have it four stars instead of five is cuz there are way too many ads!!! The moment the opened it, it said “go premium”. Literally 10 seconds later it popped up again saying “go premium”. SO ANNOYING!!!!! But again, great dictionary overall but please get rid of ads. You can’t force people to get premium. If they want to get it they can but you can’t force it on them.
User Interface is not intuitive and audio quality is okay

I bought both the Merriam Webster Dictionary App and this app. Compared to the Merriam app, this user interface is less intuitive and the audio quality of the pronunciation feature is not nearly as good. That being said, the definitions here are better than the Merriam app. Overall, the Merriam app is a better experience but this is a better dictionary. Despite being less polished, I continue to use this app on a regular basis.
Poor Design, Little Innovation
meme.addict on 2020-02-19
Even after purchasing the upgrade, this app still needs a lot of work. The search field is very small, and doesn’t appear immediately after load, and requires a click to activate. This app is not optimized around Search, which is the primary use case. The searching for similar or misspelled words feature is very poor. It also continuously pops up the request to rate the app when I’m trying to enter a word. So I have left a review!
Ok, listen.

So, I got this for school. A few weeks after I got it, the premium thing would pop up constantly. And I only get 1 search a day, which is kinda stupid. I’m not gonna waste my money on words, I’ll just use a real dictionary. The point is just because I don’t wanna buy your package shouldn’t mean I have to strip the internet to find a good source. I got this only for school and I’m just not happy with the result. Thanks.
A gem for a wordsmith
catherinefromrye on 2020-02-19
Each day from the youngest years of my life, I have had, and will always have, a profound experience with words. Nothing as important than the precise word, by which, we express ourselves with complete accuracy and knowledgeable outcomes, by the words that we choose. This is one of the best online apps, and I don’t have to hold a large, heavy text in my hands. A more than five star rating!
