I love this game, as I always have. I play it on both my phone and my tablet. The events are well put together, and so fun to do. The game is well thought out as well, and I enjoy playing on my free time.
However, I do have to deduct one star for the fact that this game is a little too heavy on the computer-friendly.
At the beginning of the game, the levels are fine and offer you a very fair competition. However, as you start progressing, the computers get significantly harder. Now that is totally fine and understandable, but sometimes, without even getting the chance to take your turn, or only getting a mere one turn in, the computers have gone out, adding your score high up. And this isn’t even on the specific “hard” levels. And it happens in multiple phases for one level. This results in wasting energy when you barely got to even get a breath in before the round was over.
Maybe a fix could be gaining your energy back on that level if you didn’t get the chance to take a turn at all, because wasting energy on pointless rounds makes it a bit irritating.
Overall amazing game though, but would love to see maybe a little more fair competition in the future for the levels.
Thank you xx
In summary: There is no way to restore in app purchases. Further, star passes are only for the current map, but they do not tell you that when you purchase one. You only find out when you move on to the next map and find that you have to purchase an additional star pass for that map. Customer service is unresponsive.
Full story: I searched for information on star passes before purchasing one. I love the game and wanted a way to get more energy so I could play more. No information was available so I purchased one only to find out that it was only applicable for the current map. When I moved on to the next map, I had to purchase an additional star pass to unlock the bonus chests for that map. That information would have been useful before making a purchase decision.
Further, my iPad had an issue and I had to do a reset. When I reinstalled the phase 10 app, there was no way to restore in app purchases. When I contacted the developer for support they did not respond.
I will no longer be playing this game, and I don’t recommend it based on the failure of the developers to provide a way to restore in app purchases.
Like many reviewers before me have pointed out, you basically need to spend money if you want to have a chance as winning once you really start getting into the game. There have been NUMEROUS times where the first computer opponent will pick up ONE card and immediately be able to finish that phase and nobody else gets a turn. And the hard levels? Forget about passing those in a reasonable amount of time if you don’t buy all of the power ups. The computers will get 2-3 wild cards per hand while you are left picking up the same cards from the discard pile. I really liked this game in the beginning and even bought the star pass for $5. What they don’t advertise is that you have to pay $5 for a star pass for each section of the game. This is just one of those games that reels you in by being super easy in the beginning and then makes it impossible and frustrating to the point where you give in and buy energy or power ups to be able to play. One hard round will zap all of your energy and then you have to wait hours before it fills up again. So ridiculous
Phase 10 is a great game, but the borderline cheaty AI you play against in Journey mode is awful. Half the time, they will win their phase in their first turn, and half of THOSE times will also go out before you even get a turn. The AI players will almost always skip you or else they will play it like no real player ever would. In real Phase 10, after you complete your phase, you WANT someone to go out before others can complete their phase, but the broken AI never does this. They will only skip the player that has completed their phase, which means they are all working together. It is like you are playing Spades against a team that can communicate, but your own partner also is helping them. As it is, the app is nothing like the card game, because in real life, everyone will play to win, whereas in this game they will only work together to make you lose.
Big surprise that the only way to beat them is to pay RL cash for wilds and skips so you can cheat too.
It’s a well done port of a very fun IRL card game. It is generally well done. But the AI in this game is absolutely horse&*%$. The number of times that an opposing “player” meets objectives and closes out before I’ve drawn my second card is mind boggling. You draw last every single time. It does not rotate. So you’re always playing from behind.
And the number of times I’ve been in last place and had two AI players who had already met objectives Skip me instead of the player in first place feels... wrong.
Couple the terrible AI with an unforgiving energy system makes this literally unplayable for me. If they balance the AI and make the energy system a little more generous, I would probably come back and play. Like I said... otherwise well done game. But there is just zero chance that I’d pay money (to make it ad free, or for gems or boosters) to have my butt handed to me over and over again.
The game is super fun. I love phase 10. Plus there are other cute games with in. I don’t mind the number of ads but my issue is with the journey. As you scale, you’ll realize that the computer wins most of the time. And the only way to beat it is to purchase skips and wild cards. I don’t mind spending a few dollars to get through a game but when I’m still losing after purchasing wild cards and skips, it’s really the game.
Even the side game of rolling die on a board and collecting ingredients starts to cheat. The die almost always lands on the number you don’t want and causes you to fail.
Unfortunately phase 10, you win...I will delete the game. I understand the business strategy behind it but it is dishonest to rig the game for profit. Reconfigured the game to actually move at random. Don’t manipulate me to purchase anything.
I played against the bots in Journey and I was supposed to have won a game with the least negative points and it says the bot won! Seems like the bots are very powerful in Journey and you cannot progress past a certain point because of how much the game is in their favor. Not sure why you can’t use coins for anything but tournaments either. I would pay to play more but this game isn’t worth it. I love Phase 10 but this is a huge money grab with little enjoyment. I paid $1.99 for 200 gems and there it all went to trying to get past the stupid bots which I couldn’t! Absolute trash game. You guys literally ruined Phase 10 with this app. I’ll stick to the card version where I’m not being ripped off.
If you want to beat the roadmap (which is you vs the game) be prepared to spend a lot of money.
The game essentially makes it impossible to win without spending money on skips and blocks. Then if you do have skips and blocks the AI players complete their phases on the first or second turn, skip you repeatedly, or get multiple wild cards “randomly”. It is gimmicky trash.
For a game that is as well done as this one it is a shame they feel the need to engineer some extra greed into a game I’d normally be inclined to pay for a “full version”.
Multiplayer is the only mode worth playing but don’t lose all your coins or you will be spending money again.
I love this game so much but they make it DIFFICULT to play for an extended period of time! It takes forever for the energy to recharge and they force you to spend money in order to play. Way to ruin a classic game!
Update: So I purchased the “no more ads” and finished that level. Went to the next world and guess what....you have to pay again! Why would y’all be so greedy? Not to mention the fact that the computer gets dealt a better hand every single time. I refuse to pay for more chests just so I can get suckered into passing more levels only to have to do it again. I will download a BETTER priced Phase 10 bc this one is all about taking your money!
Over all I enjoy the game. However, it’s pretty obvious that you won’t have a chance at winning until the computer decides you will win. Then you can hardly lose. For example, I started a level of Journey this morning, with full energy. I decided to reset the level every time I did not complete the first phase. I reset 8 times. Of those 8 hands, the other two players completed the phase 6 times. The other 2 times one of the players completed the phase. I have tracked wild cards and skip cards. There is almost always one player that does significantly better in those cards. It truly gives the appearance of a lack of randomness.
