Recent update ruined CarPlay..
tbayrgs on 2020-10-30
UPDATE: Props to developer who replied to my feedback within about 3 hours advising of upcoming changes and thanking for feedback. I’ll adjust score accordingly after the update. ************** Removing the Up Next queue from the main screen and the ability to mark an episode as played from the Now Playing screen has made Pocket Casts basically unusable for me in CarPlay. I’ve curated my podcasts using the Up Next functionality. With the recent changes, there is no simple way to access my preferred queue when CarPlay starts and if I’m not already in the middle of an episode, there is no Now Playing option and there is no way to get to the Up Next queue. This forced me to open my phone to find the next podcast in Up Next, completely defeating the purpose of CarPlay in the first place. Please add it back to the main screen. Where is the option to mark an episode as played in CarPlay? You have maintained a setting to have it appear both in CarPlay and in the phone’s Lock Screen yet it’s no where to be found in CarPlay, and definitely not on the Now Playing screen where it’s most useful. I don’t necessarily listen to an entire episode yet there is no way to mark it played and automatically start the next episode in queue. I’m also forced to go back and clean up my previously played on the phone. And additionally, I’m also seeing episodes that I have finished while on CarPlay not being automatically marked as played on my phone. I’d recently returned to Pocket Casts after years using Overcast because while I preferred the cross platform capabilities of Pocket Casts, Overcast was the only app that had the ability to download podcasts to my Apple Watch. When you added that same ability, I was ecstatic to return. These changes to CarPlay may very well push me back to Overcast.
Great update

Awesome app. So glad development is continuing!! However, Goldilocks still wants ability to filter per podcast instead of in the filtering menu. There’s only 3 out of 7 podcasts that I listen to regularly that put out duplicate or occasional unwanted content. The “filtering” additions are neat, it just doesn’t help in my situation. Podcast A puts out a 40 minute “best of” that I would rather not download, let alone add to up next. Podcast B and C release 20-40 minute podcasts that I do want to listen to. Occasionally they release 3-10 minute episodes that I would rather not download. In this case the one size fits all filter doesn’t help. And there is the wasted auto download of unwanted episodes that limit legitimate episodes from staying on my phone. The filtering is a cool feature, but it would work much better if you could apply filtering within each podcast’s settings -which would limit auto downloading - rather than an external filter for queuing episodes. I hope my explanation of how I use your app helps guide future development. This app is already hands down the best podcast app. P.S. Please allow a setting to control Apple watch’s playback controls. I specifically want to permanently remove playback speed. I can think of no instance where someone would need to consistently alter the speed at which someone is talking. Thanks for your time and further development!!
Injects ads after update
Chase998877 on 2020-10-30
Paid good money for this app a while back and used it religiously. They decided to start injecting ads during the podcast and not tell anyone. Thought it was the podcast itself but it turns out the developers were being sneaky. I’m all for them making money, but it’s underhanded to give an “update” that now makes the experience worse. Moving to Spotify and not looking back.
HUGE Step Backward For CarPlay
PaladinTom on 2020-10-30
First off, they removed the ability to mark an episode as played from the now playing screen on CarPlay. Why?! Next, there is a limit to how many playlists you can view. For some reason you can only see ten or so playlists. Lastly, I tried to submit feedback from the app, but it doesn’t recognize that I’ve set Gmail as my default email app.
Some nice features
Johnlovesdata on 2020-10-30
Some nice features. I like having cast functionality because I have google home devices in my house. But there appears to be no way to save my login info in my list of passwords on iOS like there is on Android. Would like that piece of feature parity. Otherwise this is my favorite podcast app on android and it’s getting better on iOS.
Great app, plenty of issues right now.
BlankEpsilon on 2020-10-30
I’m on iOS 14.2 beta right now. And for whatever reason the app keeps saying “check your internet connections and try again,” on the every podcast. I’ve been using the app for close to 7-8 years I think. Never had that issue before. Not entirely sure what’s causing it but it’s made the app entirely unusable.
needs a basic feature bad

Pleaae add a feature to automatically update the podcast art very convoluted way to force a refresh. use the NoAgeda podcast for a test they update podcast art on every single episode. edit Nice you guys added it Thank you
Was great - now meh

Was great when it was a (deserved) expensive one-time purchase app. After purchase? Turns into a subscription model where there is no clear reasoning on why I paid full price originally. Deleted. Moved on.
Latest update blew away the 33 items in up next
Clarkezone on 2020-10-30
Doesn’t appear to be any way of restoring my up next queue which is the heart of the app for me. Thanks guys, great update. Nice QA process. Maybe consider improving your code coverage.
