Careful, it’s addictive
zcochran88 on 2020-12-04
I’ve quit this game twice. The first time was because the number of bugs got to be infuriating. They had fixed those by the time I came back early in 2020. Now I’m quitting again. I’m giving the app 4 stars. This is a change from my rage quit 1-star review, which is below. The biggest problem with the game is that it is hard to quit. It easily takes up hours of your day and week and you have nothing to show for it in the end. For the collector types like me, you get into it because the novelty is exciting and there’s so much to catch. Then you end up staying if you’re competitive like me because either you want to get to the highest level or you want to beat everyone else in the PVP. Ultimately, you find yourself grinding for hours a week to little effect. The best thing I can say about the game is that it gets you out of the house and encourages you to go for a walk or a run when you otherwise don’t feel like it. Besides that it is easy to find yourself driving and playing which is dangerous, and every possible downtime you end up going in to the app for a catch or a battle. An unexpected side effect of the app that I appreciated was that I learned how to manage massive amounts of information because I was trying to manage hundreds of Pokémon at the same time. It also helps you to make selective decisions about how to spend your limited resources, which can be useful in real life. Ultimately, I got all the value I could from the app and now that they have introduced a very very steep grind towards a new level cap, it’s not worth continuing. In many ways the game might still be fun but it would be a waste of time. If you have an addictive personality, maybe skip this app. I quit the game. In some ways, it feels like I have my life back. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Quitting the game...again The first time was due to bugs not tracking my progress with egg hatching. This time, it’s because it has become clear what this game is. A money-grabbing xp grind that is for hardcore gamers who play this game for a living. 176 Million XP. REALLY. I hit level 40 last week after coming back to the game and investing another six or so months (often hours a day) to get the roughly 17.5 million xp I still needed to get to level 40. I decided level 40 was my goal. Then as soon as I hit it, same week, and they announce a level 50. Again. 176 Million XP—and a host of other tasks—to get to level 50. They should have kept a level 40 cap and then given vanity levels in a different leveling system. This leveling system makes me believe that I could never (and would never want to waste this much time to) get to level 50. Grinding to 40 was hard enough. There is no way I want to get to level 50 by spending in almost 8x as much work. No way. This is so dumb. This is not even fun. And now, even if Niantic recognizes their mistake and lowers the xp requirements after people complain, it is still just an insane idea to keep ramping up the grinding. If I want to grind that much, I’ll move salt grains with tweezers from my salt container into my salt shaker. Sheesh.
Fix Adventure Sync!
Proteus 846 on 2020-12-04
This game is a lot of fun and I really enjoy it. However, I only set my location permission to “Always” for it before long hikes or days full of walking, because it is such a battery hog (and that location services icon on my screen is annoying to see 100% of the time) — so Adventure Sync isn’t usually working. Here’s why this is stupid. iPhones track fitness and motion data in the background. They have done this for years now. In fact, Pokémon Go asks for permission to access this data! So the game knows how much I’m walking every day, and it doesn’t need always-on location access to do it. By using this data instead, it would save a lot of battery life (and I wouldn’t need to see that location icon up there all the time) but it would still be able to track how far I move. Until they fix that, I won’t be getting the full benefit of that feature (which dramatically slows game progress) all because I am not willing to cut my battery life short and always have my location being sent to Niantic — when they don’t even actually need all that personal data they’re snagging. Please, fix this. (Oh, and I might actually make a few IAPs if the app worked correctly. Currently I haven’t even spent a penny on the game. I’d also definitely play more if this worked properly) Other than that this is a good game. I know people who play it like it’s their job (when it isn’t) but for me it’s more of a casual thing. I could complain about other things it does, but apart from Adventure Sync the issues are usually pretty tolerable.
Great! But a few questions
CheezyBAnanaS! on 2020-12-04
I this is by far my most used game, however, while I have been playing, I have come up with a few questions. 1) ok this one is kind of silly, but while I was playing, I was in the middle of nowhere, and out of nothing, an army of seels appeared. And I mean enough to evolve three of the ones I surprisingly had the patience to catch, without trading them! I was so confused too, but it did help me farm star dust. 2) can you make it so it will tell you how much star dust is needed for a trade? My friend and I have been trying to trade my torch-ic (it isn’t letting my type it out) for his Charizard, but it isn’t letting us, and keeps telling us we need more star dust, strange though because I have at least 30,000 and he has maybe over 15,000. 3) mega evolutions are cool, but when I found out that they were added, I was pretty exited. I was moderately disappointed though to find out Blazikens mega evolution didn’t make it in. (Blaziken has been my buddy ever since I caught him as as a torch-ic over two years ago) and I understand that you can’t add every mega evolution, but can you make it so that you can mega evolve all Pokémon, but for ones who don’t have a mega form, they will just gain the extra CP? Ok well that is all! Thank you or taking your time on reading this!
Obsessed but not quite impressed...

I love this game and cannot stop playing it... until it won’t work. I know every game has its bug and that they get fixed but when you fix one bug, please try not to add another. I hadn’t got the new update the other night and tried to get on because my egg was ready to hatch but it would work. I would click on the game and it would come up with the loading screen and the little bar at the bottom would go across the screen but then when the screen changed colour and had the spinning pokeball on top to load it would close itself out and go to the home screen on my phone. So I would try it again... and again... and again... and yet again until I finally gave up. Tried it AGAIN last night but the same thing happened. Gave up after a few dozen tries and came back this morning. Finally thought about it being an update that I needed. Downloaded the update and went to play my game and it STILL won’t load. I really don’t want to delete this game because I am totally addicted to it but if I can’t play it then I have no need for it to take space on my phone... this is a fun game that I love. I just want it fixed so I can keep it
I LOVE IT but...

Ok I love the game so much I’ve played for awhile and sometimes I catch rares! But I only did a four star instead of five is since the game has bad tracking please fix it.. also another thing THE IOS GLITCH i tried to download this and it didn’t even work AND RIGHT THIS SECOND ITS STILL DOWNLOADING AND THE OTHER THING I TRY SO MUCH TO MAKE IT NOT kick me OUT, and it does so then I had to RE DOWNLOAD IT SO MUCH this is new when I had my old account it was different you never had a big bug something happened. Again I want to say something if you ever have this problem just restart the device your on if you have a lot of apps downloaded un download some it will help I just un downloaded 2 and it helped just I’m just adding this so people know how to fix it I’m sorry have to add on ANOTHER thing I think you should add no internet connection and just trust some people not to glitch out if you can and just work it on like a gps
Bad glitch
Some1had2sayit on 2020-12-04
I spent 100 gold coins to get a raid pass. I went to battle a dratini and just as I was about to win, the sound scrambled and I got booted out of game. I log back in to see if my battle was paused. It wasn’t. I lost 100 coins for nothing. Didn’t get my raid pass back. Totally bogus. Don’t spend money on this game till they have failsafes put in place. There’s other glitches that cause the game to boot me out too. And now they reduced how many gold coins you can earn down to just 50 per day. How is anyone supposed to say this game is “free to play” when you make it take forever to make any progress? As a gamer, I am stunned at how much worse this game has become from one update to the next. That’s the opposite of how updates should work! I’m done playing this game
Pokémon Go can’t access to shop or free items
Zzzz9 on 2020-12-04
For IOS pokemon go, It has been 10 days or more than a week that I can’t still access to get free items daily or purchase during Lake trio event and last November comday I had a hard time to buy items or adding top up coins , I had tried all kind of resets from soft to hard reset of the app and even redownload the game still not access immediately to the free items , and also tried latest update kalos event., still can’t get free items after pressing the exchange button it only showing spinning disc and thats it. Need to soft reset just to go back on main page. Please fix the Pokémon go shop, ever since last update of ios 14 the shop had hard access to buy.
Better all the time

The developers at Niantic work very hard to keep the game exciting for veteran players. And they add little things to make navigating within the game so much easier. They are always bringing new and exciting Pokémon, having special events, while maintaining exciting features like the Go battle league and Team GO Rocket that promotes long term Pokémon development. Oh and of course Raids! The game does have it bugs as each new feature is added, it I have yet to see a computer or program that doesn’t have some type of issue. Niantic is always resolving the bugs/issues in a timely manner and keeps players informed as needed. This game is fun for kids and adults!
Good game, just ONE THING that makes it “not-right”
astuart22 on 2020-12-04
EDIT: If anyone reads this, the remote raid passes are no longer being distributed every week. So, this game is good. The special research tasks are hard. Gyms are fun to tackle. Buddies are fun, I like to take pictures of them on my couch or in a cupboard, stuff like that. There is ONE MAJOR disappointment for me, which is the fact that raids are impossible unless you have over 10 players. I live in a town with not many PoGo players, so I can only play lvl 1 raids. I only have 1 legendary which I got from a field research reward a while ago. All these Azelf raids are basically taunting the players that can’t do raids because they never have enough players.
Niantic did poorly, but this is only one available
Denisovich87 on 2020-12-04
Unfortunately, Niantic made many completely unnecessary changes to characters and original aspects of gameplay. Yes, some changes were needed for the realtime action aspect, but many, many other changes (like changing some Pokémon colors) are uncalled-for., Niantic does nothing whatsoever to provide any degree of accessibility to blind/visually impaired users; they even changed how a Pokémon’s call was simply the Pokémon saying its own name, to different sounds that are sometimes difficult to distinguish(and absolutely difficult to keep track and memorize). Shame on you, Niantic, and shame on you, Pokémon, for signing with Niantic to create this travesty.
