Love the App but...
_Mystique_ on 2020-10-28
Update October 3 2020: As of IOS 14, some things are a bit glitchy but that’s expected in the world of app development. Looking forward to the update guys! Thanks for a wonderful app. Initial review: I’ve been using this app for only a week so it could be that I just don’t know where to find the answers. I have used google and tried reading their published manuals in iBooks. Note: for a one time payment app - this is an extremely useful and versatile app. With everything going subscription based I am immensely thankful to the developers for not doing so with this app. I am one of those who would stick to a free app or create everything on a desktop app rather than pay a yearly or monthly subscription. (This is one reason I gave 5 stars). I do no regret purchasing and I would definitely buy it again if I had to. So, let the points begin: 1. I never expected this app to be used like Procreate on my iPad. This iPhone XS screen is extremely small and I am not that ambitious. While I have been able to use this pocket app almost the same as the iPad app, I would not say they’re on equal grounds. But they’re both awesome apps. 2. I had assumed that my iCloud would sync and I would have access to my iPad procreate creations so that I could easily upload to Instagram. This was one of my main reasons for purchasing - that is not the case, but I will live. 3. I expected this app to be great at creating instagram stories and quotes. It does a great job at it once you know what to do. However, I wish that there would be a way to manually enter the size for text. You have to use a slider to change the size of your text and my OCD hates that all my text are never the exact size I want them to be. I’m feeling frustrated just thinking about this right now. 4. Keeping in mind that this app is similar to photoshop, I’ve been able to learn how to add outlines and shadows to my text using the long route which has been strangely and extremely satisfying for me. (You have to duplicate the layer and add Gaussian blur, motion blur etc) 5. For my purposes which is mostly adding text to photos and manipulating as I would in Canva or Over - I can replicate the templates in Canva that I’ve used in the app this easily by importing and installing my own font. (Minus the subscription for the more awesome templates)
great.. BUT

PROS: i love this app. i make twitch emotes and just started doing so. that being said, i don’t have much experience with app editing but i have tried adobe draw, auto desk, and a couple more. they were all pretty similar. not many brush selections, has a learning curve, and just doesn’t have all the setting/features and stuff i wish it did. but once i tried procreate pocket, with a few videos i was able to learn the majority of what i can do. it has great interface, easily understandable features, and just not complicated at all while offering what what u need. CONS: it’s 4.99$ which is a tiny bit on the pricey side for a drawing app considering there are many free ones. I’ll be drawing on separate layer (like any one would) but i didn’t draw it in the direction i want it. when i go to transform the layer, the lines because pixilated while the rest of the lines are buttery smooth. it’s very annoying because i sell my emotes to costumers so knowing that i could give them better quality if this app just had one little bug fix is upsetting, especially when my business is on the line. overall the app is great, just wish it didn’t do that with my lines and wasn’t 5$ also wish there were options like “fill” because when i have to manually select the section i want to color, it gets pixelated. please have an update or something that fixes these issues. other than that, it’s a great app with even greater potential :D

I’ve been using IbisPaint for quite a while. It’s reliable and free, but I’ve heard great things about procreate so I decided to get it a couple days ago. I have a very hard time drawing digitally so I import sketches I draw traditionally and go over it with whatever art program I’m using. When I decided to try out procreate I did just that. I uploaded a sketch from my phone. Everything was going fine while I outlined the sketch, but problems started arising when I started coloring and shading. On average I use about 20-30 layers in my drawings and I was shocked to find out that there was a 4 layer limit? Procreate shouldn’t have this problem especially if you have to pay for it. If free apps like IbisPaint can have infinite layers, then why in the world can’t procreate be the same? The second problem I ran into was: I use the section tool and fill tool very often and soon realized that they both only apply to the layer that you’re on. I could not use the fill tool at all. The opacity of layers is really wonky too. If these are just glitches please get them fixed. I want to like and use this app so much, but it’s not good. I expected more from the editors choice.
Great app with few exceptions

I’ve had procreate for about 6 months now, and I love pretty much every feature on the app, but I’ve noticed something. Whenever I watch the replay of one of my drawing, it looks more pixilated and there are tons of colors that I never used in the art piece. I honestly don’t know if there’s something I don’t know about or how to fix it, and I don’t know if it’s a normal thing in art apps. And I have another problem, I don’t know what’s causing procreate pocket it update slower than the IPad version, One example is that it’s been 4 months since procreate pocket has been updated. And whenever I save my photos (I normally use PNG) it’s the same thing with the replays. It’s more pixilated and there’s colors I never even used. I’ve been trying to fix the problem to no avail.
Love it!

I have been using this app for over a year now and its great! I only have one problem with it.. I wish it had a dark mode/interface. I have seen that the original Procreate app has the option for the dark interface; I sadly don’t have an iPad but I would still love to have the option of the dark interface. I have a problem with the bright light and have used Dark Mode on my iPhone ever since it came out and it helped with my migraines but the only thing is that Procreate Pocket doesn’t offer the same. I hope one day you can include this feature but regardless thanks for this lovely app!
Not what I expected

From seeing the art, the backgrounds, the lineart, I decided I NEEDED to buy this app. I got some cash and purchased the app. I read some of the reviews but decided to just brush them off. When I first got into the app it looked super confusing. Of course there was a tutorial but not a very good one. Heck it didn’t even show me how to change brush sizes, I’m bit exaggerating when I say that it took me 15 minutes to find out how to change brush sizes, or even lower the capacity down!! Make a better tutorial!!!
Technical difficulties
Jane A****** on 2020-10-28
I’ve been using the app for one to two years, and these last months I’ve been getting technical difficulties. Lately it’s been kicking me out of the app when trying to draw on a canvas. I deleted the app because of that and deleted all of the past art pieces I made in the last 6 months which made me mad that none of it saved. I think they should add a restore art option and save option added to the app. I do like the app though I think there should be a few more things added to it.
Fonts and maybe 5x?
ArtCee.Vibes on 2020-10-28
I'm a graphic designer. My whole art business is based on procreate pocket. I love the app so much and I hope update 5x comes to pocket too! The problem is custom fonts suddenly don't work since the IOS 14 update. Many other apps I used have launched updates to fix this problem. I won't be able to get back to using Procreate Pocket fully until the problem is fixed or I just have to find a new art app(which I realllyyy don't want to do).

Please make procreate on here because this version doesn’t have animation assist and isn’t as good,I got my hopes up on this and now I regret it, and I can’t afford an iPad so I would love if you made regular procreate on here and I’m sure everyone else would too. The most layers is around 200 I can’t even make a decent animation and I can’t import a video more then 4 seconds long. Sorry if this is to harsh but it’s a waste of money
I love this but...

So I’m having problems with the drawing. The app works like normal until I create a new page. Then I try to use the drawing tool but it won’t show up on on the page but every thing is normal and none of the settings are different. The opacity is as high as it goes, all the layers are on. But it still won’t work. I was even deleting the app a couple of times and downloading it again but it still won’t work.
