But they’ve been pretty disappointing recently. My current issue is trying to figure out how to cancel subscriptions, and being unable to get into contact with anyone from Roku Anyone at all, is impossible. If I go to the site of what I’m subscribing to, it says I need to do it through Roku. When I go to Roku’s website, it says I need to do it through the Roku. I don’t see the option anywhere on the ruku, it’s not on the faq, their online “help” system is worthless and just puts me through circles. And their customer service line that they hide the number to (bet you can’t find it on their website) just saying to go online for help. Which isn’t helpful at all. So I’m about to just call my credit card company and file a fraud claim, I don’t know how else to get the payments to stop. Another annoying issue from about a year ago. I bought the top model of Roku since my old rule stopped being serviced. The most expensive, fastest model. Within 2 months it’s telling me I need to buy a memory card since the Roku is full, and until I do, it uninstalls apps to make room for the ones I use. All I use is 5 streaming channels. That’s literally the only apps downloaded on it besides what comes in it, which shouldn’t be a lotl. If I’m buying the most expensive, top end model of a product, I shouldn’t have to buy additional add ones to make it functional. I feel like Roku made it big and then stopped caring about quality, just on profits.
There’s one thing that must be said about Roku, and that’s that I feel like this app was made because they knew that their remotes would die very quickly. By that I mean, 6 months into having my tv, the batteries inside the remote actually corroded and ate away the battery contacts inside. I cleaned the inside and replaced the batteries only for it to happen again 4 months later. I was using Kirkland signature batteries the second time. After the third time of cleaning out the remote I noticed certain buttons stopped working consistently, and eventually I had to switch to using the app.
The app itself is very useful though, I can do more on it that I could with the original remote. I love that I can just open the app on my phone and not worry about looking for the remote that fell behind my bed in my sleep again. However I have one complaint about the app itself, it doesn’t have a widget. I would absolutely love if I could put a widget on my home screen with 3 buttons, power on most recently used tv, open the remote buttons, and volume up + down. If this feature was added, I would gladly change my review to 5 stars.
Family room Hisense tv remote broke. Roku 2D box in bedroom remote wouldnt work on hisense got this app on my ipad and 2 iphones to recognize both devices at first. Sometimes connection has to be re established if i leave my house, today i had to shut down the other phone, which did not leave the house, for it to recognize the hisense, but the phone that left the house nothing works anymore, not even reinstalling app and manually imputing the ip address. They are signed into my roku account by email. My ipad so far isnt doing this. Shows anything free is junk. I had to take the phone off the network shut it off and reinstall the app every time i leave the house with my phone and it sometimes recognizes my tv after all of that. Its a pain. Nope didnt work this time says the tv in front of me isnt on the network, only the bedroom one i have to keep putting the name and location every time i reinstall too
I thought I could manage my way through these glitches, but I just bought my second Roku tv and it’s even MORE glitch filled than my last one! How does a brand new tv have SO many errors?! I spent $400 on a tv that operates more poorly than my 4 year old tv. It kicks me out of my streaming platforms almost every other day now. C’mon, Roku. You’re way too accessible of a brand to be having these constant issues with your remote app. The private listening spontaneously stops working, it sporadically won’t connect to your tv (I’ve spent the past 15 minutes trying to do this with no luck), and it even lags to register what you’re doing on the remote when it chooses to work. I’m grateful that there’s an app to control your tv, but what’s the point of the physical remote is more functional? Wasting my time with your product.
TLDR: remote won’t ever connect while any app is running (YouTube, hbo max, etc).
What the heck is wrong with this thing? The idea of it - to connect to multiple Roku devices and TVs - great idea. But it never connects!
When you are running the roku on any screen except the roku menus, it refuses to connect the remote. Mostly I want this app so I can turn off the TVs when the kids have wandered off, or when mom falls asleep. Or to adjust that annoying YouTube volume when the kids are watching the horrible content that they do
This app is useless for those situations.
So sad. Great idea that just never really works. Please fix- I actually NEED this to function.
I love this app. I lost my Roku remote months ago and I have no desire to find it bc this app does the job even better. All that said, I have an important message to the app developers: please, for the love of God, move the power button somewhere else besides in the corner. I cannot count on both hands how many times I’ve accidentally hit that button and turned off the tv mid-show. My finger has barely twitched and I’d somehow pressed that God forsaken button. I could literally breathe ten feet away and the button gets pushed. As someone who does this at least three times daily on accident, please, do me this giant solid, developers.
Usually the app works great but about 75% of the time, buttons won’t show up on the remote and it’ll just stop working. It’s always weird bc it’ll have been working like, 5 minutes ago and then it just quits out on you. This stopped for about, 2-3 weeks and now it’s back. My TVs on and it’s in an app but the remote won’t work. I can’t even turn off the tv. I tried googling it but it said to restart the tv and THEN my app but I can’t do that since the whole reason why I have the app is bc my dog ate the remote. Really disappointed in this app rn. Especially since the newest update said they fixed bugs and now my app isn’t working!
This app is the worst app ever. It doesn’t even work. You can’t connect to your tv even when everything is correct. It says to try again later over and over again but never works. Laos the day after i downloaded i got a virus on my phone!!! It deleted all my photos and videos from over 5 years! It asks me if i want to pay for an upgrade and when i did it charged me FIFTY DOLLARS when it said it was 4!! I can’t believe this app. When I emailed them they told me there was nothing they can do and then ignored me! They have horrible customer service and an even worse app. If you want to download this app, be prepared to be scammed 😒
This app had issues for me before the update, now it’s downright impossible to use. I used it to control my Roku tv which was running on my hotspot, which was no problem, just cumbersome having to enter the code every time for the IP ADDRESS. With the update, I can’t even use the app to control my TV. It’s pointless. Unless they do an update to allow us to be using the same device for WIFI and to control the app, I won’t be coming back.
Was willing to try again, saw rage there were SEVERAL updates, NONE of which address the issue. If I’m with my TV, my phone won’t be on WIFI.
I switched to the swipe remote so I don’t have to look at my mobile screen to make sure my thumb is over the correct button. However, it is too sensitive to movement. Frequently when I tap to make a selection, it instead swipes one direction or another. It gets very annoying, sometimes it takes several tries at keeping my thumb completely still along the screen while tapping as briefly as I can and yet the darn thing still swipes instead of selecting the confounded thing I want.
