Everyone should own this app. I amazed at what this simple (understated) little app can do. It’s a great example of how advances in technology over just the past 25 years have “flattened” the universe for all of us — giving anyone with a mobile phone and a sense of curiosity immediate & intimate access to some of its greatest natural wonders. What Does it Do? Skyview offers its users positional data on thousands of natural and manmade items of interest in outer space. Combining this with the iphone’s gyroscope technology gives godlike understanding of the locations and trajectories of these celestial bodies. Why is that a Big Deal? We did not have Skyview when I was a kid in the 1980’s. We had star maps made out of paper. If you wanted to learn more about something you saw in the sky, you had to go to the library and try to find a book about it. First you had to look in a card catalogue to find some books that sounded like they might have relevant information. When you found a book in a card, you had to write down a numerical code for where the book was located. Then you had to look through aisles and aisles of books to find the one you were looking for. When you found a book, you had to look through the index in the back to figure out what page(s) discussed the stuff you were interested in. If you got lucky and found a book that had was on topic, you could either check it out for a couple weeks, photocopy the relevant pages, or take notes in a notebook. Photocopying was not easy back then. either. I honestly don’t know how anything ever got accomplished, in retrospect. And today you just double-click on a link. Stargazing was not as easy back then either. With a few notable exceptions (north star, orion) it was hard to identify the stars you saw, or to correlate them to the constellations named on your star map — unless you had a powerful telescope and a masters in greek mythology. And then along came the internet. And then the iPhone. And then Skyview. And now the world has changed forever. I hope my kids never take for granted the fact that they were born into a world where they will always have, at their fingertips, technology to help them answer, instantaneously, virtually any question about the known natural world. I try to explain to them how recent of a phenomenon all these internet-based tools and services are because I think they need this context. Some days they listen, most days they don’t. It’s east for me to forget and take things for granted as well. And then I launch the Skyview app. And like that my perspective is recalibrated and my sense of awe is restored. So in summary, I love Skyview. It’s easy to use and intuitive. It puts the wonders of the universe at your fingertips. It has the potential to help more people understand their place in the universe more viscerally than any time in human history. I use it any time I need to re-orient myself in relation to the heavens, literally or figuratively. On the other hand, the UI and theme music are kind of cheesy.
More!!!

This is my top favorite app. I’ve been able to memorize and catalog the stars in my neighborhood with ease and learn about the classifications of stars etc. This all is really helping me orient myself on Earth!😊 One aspect I’d really appreciate if you guys would add are more asteroids & different ways to view, for example if we were on Mars then what would the sky look like from there? Similar to the Solar System Scope app. I’d buy IAP for more info! Thank you so much for your great work✨

This app simply does exactly what I want it to. And thanks to this app, I can now look up into the night sky and recognize the majority of what I see and understand my physical relation to the constellations. The music is ethereal - I’ll sometimes just let it playing and meditate with the frequencies. You will also be able to see the WASTE that NASA has deposited into LEO.
I love this APP BUT…..

On my last iPhone I had SkyView and purchased the premium version and loved it. Then I got a new iPhone and downloaded the free version and I can not download the premium version unless I pay for it again, which I am not going to do. I tried emailing the developers (I found on this page) but never received a reply. That is why I am giving this APP 3 stars!
Meh…

Got this app to help me with finding the planets that are in conjunction and can only be seen every 20 years in alignment. The calibration is off and it is hard to see the planets as the app is in the way. This did not work out the way I had hoped. Also, no way to get a hold of support. Not a good app if there is no support for helping to fix glitches.

I am so pleased with this app. When I see a stars or a planet i just point the phone towards it and it tells me the name. I can also view constellations. There must be many other features I have yet to learn. For an occasional camper like me, one can spend hours looking up the sky and the app together and has fun. Thanks, developers.
Needs an update

I love using this app a lot to track planets 🪐 and constellations 🌌, but it needs an update because when the news media talks about a constellation I look for it and is not there. I use this app with my telescope 🔭.

Always needs calibration
Dslatt on 2022-07-03
Such a bummer that the app is never ready to go. It always needs calibration. That alone makes it too much trouble to deal with.
Freezing

Screen is frozen and have to restart and recalibrate every time I want to use the app. Never was like that on my other iPhone.
