Froze my business account the week I started it

If square was up front about the information they need, it wouldn’t be a problem. But they make it seem like they only need some personal information, and then allow you to take payments. Good right? No. I had just started my business and set up my account so I could start taking payments for the inspections I do for a homeowners insurance. The first week my business was open, my account was locked until I could provide some information. Keep in mind my business was officially a week old. I was told my account would remain locked until I provide 3 months bank statements (can’t provide that since it’s brand new), could provide the signed invoices for my first customers (I take payment on delivery of my state standardized inspection forms, the report I give them is the receipt of services provided, so that’s another document that does not exist for my industry, and provided my website which doesn’t exist because I work directly through insurance companies and get my referrals through word of mouth.. If square required these on startup I would have been able to make sure I got invoices for the customers on these first transactions, but now square is holding my first week of self employment pay hostage until I give them a phony alternative for something that doesn’t exist. Did not stop them from taking their fees from my money either! It’s shady business telling you that you that you are good to collect for your services, take their cut of your income, and THEN say that you cannot have it until you provide documents that are not applicable to your industry.

Recently signed up for Square and even ordered a Square card, only for my card to be suddenly removed and my account in a state of limbo due to a deactivation that I’ve received no notice for. When attempting to contact Square through multiple outlets such as phone/email (messaging was unavailable for my account), there was literally no way I could get in touch with a live agent regarding this issue. Everything is automated and you get no reply via email. Completely garbage service that I put in money for, and now I have no way of retrieving my funds from my account. Do not use until they actually put in a customer service team because clearly there isn’t one. This isn’t just a disgruntled user—I’ve again tried every method to get a response and in spite of this I have not received any communication whatsoever. - Edit: Recently received email communication from them after several weeks, and their customer service was great. Reverting to 4 stars because they seem to have redressed this issue.

Emphasis on NOT. 1st let me say I don’t even do reviews but my experience with this app with the 1 time I used it was terrible. As a small business owner this app seemed like the way. Can send payment links to customers and have them comfortably pay for my services. Well little did I know that the way for customers to get free service is to pay using a debit card, and then dispute the charge as fradulent. And then, Square Up will go into your account and take the money. Then say that its solely up to the customers bank as to which side they resolve the dispute. But Square Up keeps the surcharge they collect for middle manning the transaction. So you lose twice. Just use cashapp/venmoe/applepay/Gpay. This app is a perfect way for hard working business people to be took advantage of. Wish I could have gave this app 0 stars.

Square has been great until someone hacked my account and ordered a square card to an address that’s not affiliated with my account. While they are investigating my account I can’t receive any transactions that are handled through square until they finish the investigation process which is very inconvenient when doing business. Not only am I waiting on transactions from almost a month ago I’m forced to retrieve a customer code that is impossible to get just to talk to square support. When calling the support number they tell you to please visit square.com/code that only takes you to contact information which is only email or a chat room being that calling is currently unavailable. They don’t respond to the email within 24hrs after saying they will. It’s a pandemic and square isn’t helping me through this hard time at all.

My account was closed for suspicious activity “because I took a visa gift card as payment” I was blocked from contacting square at all except emails which no one ever returns, and they held all my funds for 150 days. Well it’s now almost a month after they said my funds would be available to me, and still unable to get my money, still no answers to my emails, and what else they don’t mention is they will hold your money for any reason they deem necessary, also there is a time limit as to how long you have to claim said money held or it get put into a fund of their own. It seems to me if they hold your money you will never get it back, and this is the way square stays in business by robbing the small business and treating us like criminals why they get rich off our hard work and earnings.

Worst decision I’ve ever made as a business owner. Researched Square and all findings indicated they were the ideal billing platform. Within only several weeks, they began making me send in applications, one after another, all requesting the same info! Then, without notice, they deactivated my billing location. I found an email (no phone call or even warning) that my account was deactivated because my billing was too high. Only thing is when I applied for account, I gave the same monthly billing total! If you’re super small square May work. If you’re an established company billing “too much” (according to square), go the merchant account service route. Pay more but at least you’re dealing with real banks/companies/platforms.
What’s up with the update?

While the update has some nice features it has a few that are driving me nuts. 1. When entering in and item code the keyboard randomly disappears causing you to select random items. It is really frustrating. 2. When an item is voided it still appears on the customer receipt with the reason for the void. Customers have called confused as to why the item is presented on the receipt when they decided against the item. While the item does not result in the total, it being displayed is frustrating. In order to avoid the confusion we must start over and ring up all the products back up. This increasing check out time. I must preferred the old way as it just removed the item completely. I REALLY hope this changes.

I am a new business user to square, I provided services to my clientele. you guys confirmed my bank account, my business , my personal information and stated I am good to continue my business. I received an email as I am providing services stating that you guys are closing my account. Holding my funds and there isn’t actually anything I could do about it. In my email it stated that it was a final decision without speaking to me as a customer. How are other people able to use this app and card process and able to keep their business open? I’m confuse how this is open to anyone, everyone and yet there holding my money
They will lock up your account and withdraw money..... STAY AWAY!!!

They will lock up your account , withhold all your money and give you somebody to speak to in another country. there is no phone number to get in touch with a US representative or corporate headquarters. You cannot dispute directly with Visa MasterCard or AMEX. If you have a dispute and money is withheld it’s not because of the credit card company. it’s because of square... this is their “policy”They do not have your back, thry will lie to you to get off the phone and you will be playing cat and you will lose with them .........let this be a fair warning to everybody looking to use their services.
