I started my square payment specifically to do a art festival. I don’t make a lot of money as an artist but I was planning to do more art festivals etc. I usually receive donations because a lot goes into the process of making art. My account was suspended after 2 donations from a close friend and client. In times of CoVid 19 those of us staying home and being creative can not afford to have funds held indefinitely. The festival has been put off until September. Now I left in a closed loop where a unilateral decision was made to suspend card payments. I call the number they tell me to send an email however I was contacted from a no reply email address. I don’t know what went wrong. I have contacted my client and they are understanding and they don’t even desire a refund they just want to support me and my art through out this process. I still have no idea why my payments were flagged and but in a suspended state for 90 days. Which takes me to just prior to when I expect the art festival to be. I have no idea what went wrong. I have idea how they arrived at their decision. I have no idea if there is anything I am able to do on my end. I was advised to write a letter. A letter and send it snail mail. They have my contact information. They have my clients contact information. They have my bank account details. Certainly they could contact me in some way before just freezing me out for 90 days not knowing anything concrete. It’s just unnecessarily dramatic. If I did something wrong contact me in a way that invites open dialogue. I am human. I am artist. Let me go paint something as morbid as this experience. Oh wait I have to write a letter. I have sent in what was requested for my business and I can’t seem to get my anyone to let me know if they received my documentsz. You can’t call anyone and when you email you get a blanket message so at this point you are holding over 2k of our very hard earned and highly needed money to stay functional in our business. If there are no plans to allow my transfer then please send that email so I can go back to my previous provider.
We came to Square by recommendation from a friend in the same business as we are and I must say this is the worst customer service I have ever had since I’ve been in business. Withholding funds this long doesn’t help a business trying. to recover from COViD already. We have been selling the same legal products since 2018 with no issue.
It is extremely frustrating to an Army Veteran with PTSD when the my know they have done what’s been asked and get no solid resolve.
Even the simplest thing of uploading the docs requested became a challenge. I could only upload one doc period! No option for multiple uploads and the fax option doesn’t let you know if received and. no confirmation email. So now we’re on day 7 of funds withheld with rent due in 2 days!
I have processed $2,400 with square. 4 separate transactions. Absolutely legitimate address of clients contact info and everything they ask for on the invoices. Each and EVERY SINGLE time I get paid they will not allow me to transfer MY money because they are doing a “periodic” review of my account. Customer service is a huge waste of time for a company that co tractors and business who work Mon-Sun rely on they’re hours are too limited. Chatting with them is also pointless as you will be essentially spammed with automated messages and it makes almost no sense for you to put in the time and effort to submit a well said and important question. At the moment for the 4th time I am seeing the money in my square balance unable to transfer and ya e been given the same automated response that I’ve received the last 3 times. I just don’t trust square and will discontinue using it. Hard earned money hat they keep for as long as they want with no reason as if they play important some part of your hard work and negotiations. It makes me so frustrated. Going to go back to accepting checks. Takes 1 day and it’s a smooth transaction. I recommend you using a different company.
got a square to have a back up payment at work since i work at a cash only business. it took. little bit to understand how to categorize items in a way that i can easily access them. the categories option really isn’t really something o understand the point of. i had to fudge around a bit with the items setting to get it to a place that works well for me and i can quickly access for customers.
my main two frustrations is that i cannot customize anything. i can not get rid of “redeem rewards” even though i have no need for it, and i cannot get rid of “gift cards”. right now, this isn’t something i wanna have. but i think most of all, i can’t place the items in the order that i want; it has to be alphabetical which is nice for some businesses, but it doesn’t work for me. i would like to arrange the items in a different way. i wouldn’t even be so upset about the redeem rewards and the gift card options if i could rearrange the items bc i could just put the two at the bottom of the list so they’re not sitting on top.
aside from that, a good, cheap tool to have on hand to collect payment.
I have been using Square for a year and a half. I have had a wonderful experience and thought I had finally found my forever merchant processor. Yesterday I got an email detailing that they were going to start taking HALF MY PROFITS ("25% of my receipts) into reserve and would not make them available for THREE MONTHS! I'm a small residential glass contractor (12 years) and cannot run my business with them hijacking half my profits for 3 months, especially when cash flow is unstable due to cornoavirus. I spoke with them to make sure there were no additional reasons for the holds (disputes, I have none ... or funky receipt data, nope). They said it was just because of Covid and this is what Square is doing for a large portion of accounts they deem a higher risk category (contractors).
This should be illegal and I hope an Attorney General starts a class action lawsuit because of it. Please be aware folks. Square is doing some pretty shady things. You could end up waiting for a long time for your money.
Im an interior designer out of Chicago. I was able to process one clients payment but for the second payment my account was flagged. They requested more information to verify the validity of my business. I provided those details. The next message i got from them was that they were freezing my account and would not release my latest clients payment for 2 months. Zero explanation. They flagged my phone number and refused my calls. I DM them on Facebook and they tell me they’ll get right back to me but then refuse to Helio me resolve this. They finally send me an email saying that my account has been disabled and I will no longer be able to use their service.
Square is known for this. Look at Consumer Affairs. Horrible ratings. I wish I had known before. Now I will have to wait until July to have my clients payment deposited. For some business owners this has resulted in a nightmare.
Go use Wave or other reputable credit card processors.
I’ve been using square for years and couldn’t be more utterly disappointed with how ridiculously difficult it has been to even get ahold of anyone via email, as the sites form to call someone directly has been down for what seems like weeks, so the only way to contact anyone is to send an email which i waited multiple days to get any response. After I was finally emailed by 3 different employees all asking me the same questions, NONE of them responding in a timely manner as I waited multiple days to hear back from any of those 3 people, and being promised a call as well. I finally get some kind of answer over a week later and I am told to have the person who opened the account (my business partner) “contact them directly” ?!?!?!? HOW?!?! Will my partner also be waiting for over a week and given the runaround by multiple square employees?!?!
One of the most unthoughtful and unhelpful customer experiences I have had with any company.
The Square System as helped my business be more financially successful because I can take a payment from anywhere in the world. With Other payment systems, if I keyed in the credit card number manually I would have to wait a month for my payment but with Square it’s practically instant. Yesterday a customer paid us $158,000 through Square. I was concerned about the fees. The customer agreed to pay the fees for convenience. When we called and got the fee estimate when the payment went through the few estimate was spot on. We got the full amount the next day and we’re able to pay out our partners immediately with a wire transfer making everyone happy. We could never have done this without Square. I have complete confidence in the Square system now and you should too. I am Dr James Stoxen and I approve this review.

They’ll allow you to create an account, take your first payment then deactivate your account. I tried speaking with a representative named Kyle who wouldn’t allow me to speak with a supervisor, and he also was unable to give me an explanation as to why my account was deactivated. It was a huge inconvenience especially now due to Covid19. I had to refund my client and now wait up to 7 business for them to receive it to purchase again on my actual site. Oh Kyle also decided that there was no issue and that he no longer had to speak with me. Never solved anything from the start of the phone call all the way to the end. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. Terrible customer service. I’ll just report this company to who I know will further investigate and save my energy. ♀️
I do not recommend square if you have a small business or staring up your small business with square , although it’s very easy to set up your account and such they will make it very difficult to get your money out when you sell more than couple hundred in a week. They froze my account “1-2 Business Days” it took about a 1 week and a half for them to let me know I was going to have to refund all the money from merchandise that I had already sold and given to my customers , if I didn’t refund them they will do it for me. After I had sent them my paperwork and license. Very frustrating I requested to speak to someone for a week and I was never able to get a hold of any one so I willingly refunded my customers back their money took my loss and deactivated my account , very disappointed I will never use Square .
