I like what Venmo does—I don’t care for the social feed aspect and I keep all my transactions private, but sending money to friends to split a bill, paying rent, sometimes even getting paychecks for freelance gigs is smooth and easy!
That said, Venmo is the worst piece of software I interact with on a regular basis. The app completely freezes for anywhere between 10-30 seconds immediately on opening, and at any point after, whether typing in a payment or navigating menus. This has persisted for a few years now, while keeping the app up to date, and across 3 or 4 iOS versions. Venmo actually runs more smoothly on iOS 10 on my ancient 4th gen iPad than it ever has on my iPhone 6s, suggesting that it’s only gotten worse over time. to make matters worse, they killed off the web interface, so the only way to use it is through the terrible mobile app.
I usually don’t write long reviews, but my user experience with Venmo is simply so awful that I’m spending less time to write this than I spend waiting for Venmo to stop freezing over the course of a couple transactions, so if anything comes of this I guess it’ll be worth it. If the app actually functioned, this would be an easy 5 stars; as it is, I’m stuck using the worst app on my phone simply because it’s popular.
Never do business with them I waited and waited the nine business days never heard from them.... every time I chatted it was the same scripted BS, they took my money and won’t give it back claiming they have to verify my identity when I sent my ID in to them about 4 times and never got a response. Now they’re telling me they’re going to permanently deactivate my account which is fine because I planned on closing it anyways but they didn’t tell me what they’re going to do with my money. If they try to keep my money I am contacting a lawyer. I am appalled at the customer service and the lack of compassion they have towards their customers.
Have to say, I’m not the most technically savvy person so I was a little intimidated by the thought of transferring $ without Debit cards, banks, checks etc. Now I say... Venmo is the best!! I was always embarrassed when I went in on a group gift but forgot to pay the person who purchased the gift be it a friend or relative. Now I don’t forget because I do it right then. And if the rolls are reversed, sending a single request for $ is so much easier than repeatedly calling or texting to remind people to pay me.
Got a new device and the system required me to validate with a security code via email. Apparently I made a typo and used “.con” tried to call and their prompt is that they are not taking calls due to COVID. Followed the prompts to fill out a ticket online provided phone number associated with account along with incorrect email and selected their box “no longer have access to email on file” and provided correct email. Have received no response not even a confirmation that the ticket was received.
Kept having issues with getting the debit card with a “glitch in their system”. They would always say they would research it and escalate it and someone will contact me within 24 hours with an update. That happened 4 times over SEVERAL weeks! They always just say they will look into and contact me, and never do. And every single time I would check back in, zero notes and no one did anything. No way to contact supervisors. Overall bad business with zero customer service.
Venmo sent a transfer to the wrong recipient (intended user does not have Venmo but someone else has her #) and refuses to reverse it even though the person who did receive it is no longer a valid user. Then the customer service rep ‘Michael C’ from “Team Venmo” kept asking for the same information that wasn’t applicable and refused to escalate to management. Not sure why it’s difficult to provide adequate customer service but they have lost me as a customer.
Everything works great with this app. It’s convenient and seems safe. However, I do a lot of work on my iPad...how come so many companies do not allow for landscape mode??? It’s a little annoying. I always keep my iPad plugged in when I do my work and I’m constantly having to turn my iPad and whipping the cord around...not normally a really big deal except I have it plugged in.
I got a new phone and I’m trying to log into my account. However, it keeps telling me to identify my identity with a code through text or by entering my card information that’s linked to my account. Neither option is working. I haven’t gotten any codes sent to me and it isn’t accepting my bank account information for me to log in. Useless.
Venmo is by far my favorite money sending and money spending app! It’s extremely easy to use and I even get cash back for going to the grocery store if I use my Venmo card. I like the fact people can send me money and it’s immediately available for use with my Venmo debit card at any location, it’s super convenient!
Venmo customer service is actually the worst. Someone fraudulently took money from me and Venmo did absolutely nothing about it besides blaming me for losing my money. They treated me so poorly and acted like I shouldn’t have any problem losing $150.00. I will never recommend Venmo nor will I ever use it again.
