The Apple Ads Platform API is the interface Apple Ads advertisers and third-party tools use to manage campaigns, retrieve reporting, and access App Store advertising data programmatically. Apple released it in 2026 as a replacement for the Campaign Management API, and it covers both App Store and Apple Maps advertising through a single interface.

What the Platform API replaced

The Campaign Management API had been the basis of Apple Ads integrations for years. The Platform API is a rebuild rather than a new version of it, with a restructured set of endpoints.

The transition has a deadline. Campaign Management API v5 shuts down on January 26, 2027, after which anything still depending on it stops working. Advertisers who manage Apple Ads through a platform such as MobileAction do not need to act, because the migration happens on the tool’s side. Teams running their own scripts, dashboards, or internal integrations against the old API do need to plan for it.

What the Platform API added

Several additions are relevant to advertisers rather than only to developers:

  • Search Popularity: Apple’s own popularity score for App Store search terms, available by category and country.
  • Change History: A log of changes to campaigns, ad groups, keywords, and ads, including whether a change came from a person working in the interface or from an API client.
  • Suggestions and recommendations in Apple Ads native platform: Keyword suggestions, plus budget and Target CPA recommendations from Apple.
  • Apple Maps advertising: Businesses can advertise in Maps search results. An ad account is tied to one surface, either App Store or Maps, so app campaigns and Maps campaigns are managed in separate accounts.

What changed for existing metrics

The most visible change for advertisers is naming. Share of Voice became Impression Share, and SOV Rank became Impression Share Rank. Both are now reported separately for the first ad position and for all ad positions, which follows Apple’s 2026 expansion of ad placements in App Store search results.

Impression Share Rank also changed shape. It returns an integer instead of stopping at “greater than 5.”

What was retired

Campaigns no longer support a lifetime budget, so the daily budget is the control that remains. The cost per acquisition cap at the ad group level still functions, but Apple advises against using it.

What it means for advertisers

For most advertisers, the Platform API is infrastructure they never touch directly, and its effects arrive through their reporting: renamed metrics, new columns, and data that was not previously available. The exception is teams with in-house integrations, for whom the January 2027 shutdown is a real deadline.

Key takeaway

The Apple Ads Platform API replaced the Campaign Management API in 2026, bringing renamed metrics, reporting by ad position, and new data including Search Popularity and Change History. The old API stops working on January 26, 2027.
